Thief, there is absolutely no contest here. Tenchu is good but its stealth mechanics are downright primitive in comparison.

Tenchu is a fucking ps1 game with tombraideresque controls, shit graphics, 2 feet draw distance, horrid writting, barely any remarkable innovations as far as game mechanics go, and barely enough mechanics to speak of as is.

Thief was a fucking tech and game design masterpiece. From the way light and darkness is utilised to the use of sound and stealth, the ability to choose a set of different approaches to every mission and the sheer genius of its visual and narrative identity.

It's like comparing an episode of Naruto to Akira.
