Saturn controller is so fucking good for 2D games. Shit melts in your hands, great D-pad, has a good layout for fighting games plus R and L buttons for whatever the fuck else. Hori's still copying the layout for every major console.

What controllers do you guys like?

6 button layouts are a meme. They don't allow you to do fighting stick stuff, they don't have tangible advantages over 4 face buttons + bumpers/triggers.

I remember a guy who would say the 6 button scheme was meant to be played as a mini arcade pad. Like, you'd "claw" your hand around the 6 buttons using your other fingers instead of your thumb.

trying to play a game that originated on a 3 or 6 button system feels awkward when using a 4 face button pad.
you either need to remap one of the 4 face buttons to be the "C" or get used to a shoulder button having heavy use.

when it comes to emulation we drastically need something like >>6381605

Yeah, that was kinda the intention with the Genesis and 6-Button, and it works really good for that. Especially in stuff like third strike where you'd press lp+lk or mp+mk at the same time. It's nice having the columns all next to eachother instead of one of them being l+r or r1+r2.

The problem I have with the M30 (and SN30+) is that the Dinput mode stupidly has the home button internally assigned as the third button, and using a DB9-USB adapter like the Rys Mk II (which isn't capable of reassigning buttons) with the Amiga makes playing games with the M30 tedious, as the fire button is assigned to home instead of A. A damn shame since the secondary button is assigned to B and up is also assigned to X, and that is a perfect layout. The Retrobit controllers have fire assigned to C, which isn't perfect but at least it's usable.
