What are some games with a mysterious, otherworldly or "soft apocalypse" atmosphere?

A lot of Enix games had that air about them, but I guess you've played them all already, judging by your pic.
Play the SaGa games. I know they're hard to get into, but each one is a world to explore, especially Frontier (good entry point), Frontier 2 (you explore ruins, although its chapter-based gameplay is not for everyone), the first SaGa on the Gameboy and Romancing SaGa 2 (build your empire while defeating corrupted heroes)
