I view that generation as an interesting study in contrasts. Going by just PS1/N64/Saturn alone, 1995 and 1996 were mostly shitty and aged horribly outside of a few classics. 1997 was a transition year and 1998-2000 were amazing years full of AAA games, especially if one includes the transitional console of the Dreamcast.

So that generation started out with the worst years of the 90s for gaming (excluding the SNES) and ended with some of the best.
