This is an overlooked masterpiece for it's platform and it's time.

Did anyone here play it?

And of course it's from rare. As if the whole rare thing couldn't be sad enough already for me

I completed it in co-op with a friend

wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's good

Had this game and loved it to death. The eccentric enemies were really fun (toilet seats, severed feet etc) as were the "environments".
inb4 compulsory "did you know the entire map is interconnected".

The game totally has that Euro look to the graphics, Japanese games didn't look that way.

I was obsessed with this game as a kid, but I never beat it w/o Game Genie. Guess I suck at games.

>> No.6372848

This is one of the rudest NES games out there, the boss is fucking nuts, you have to hit him rapidly 20 or so times and if you stall for even a split second his health completely regenerates, added on top of this meteors are constantly falling to fuck you up and you have a time limit. Damn

Favorite NES game hands down.

>> No.6372985

It looks great, is there anything rare can't do? Gameplay wise I don't see what's going on.

>> No.6373072

I loved this game as a kid and actually got pretty good at it, but could never beat that fucking final boss. The music is pretty great too, although that later level music used to creep me out.

>> No.6373204

It featured 2 player co-op in a 3D environment on the NES. I think that says everything desu

>> No.6374225

Fucking great game. I felt like a pro as a kid once I mastered the ability of changing direction on mid-air. Hard, but packed full of secrets once mastered. The Mega Drive version plays OK, but I prefer the NES look, probably because of fagtalgia. Didn’t learn about the Game Boy sequel, Sneaky Snakes, till years later. Spent a few minutes with it but was put off by it being 2D. It’s probably OK, I dunno.

I played it and I liked it hooray

Tried it, seems very good except for those blind surprise kills like razors and anvils. Cool how every Rare game looks like Rare made it. Truly the NES will forever be best console.

My cousin and I used to play this all the damni time growing up. Its brutally hard though, and I only ended up beating it for the first time within the past few years. As a kid we were able to make it all the way up to the stage before the summit, but those final jumps are absolutely brutal.

>> No.6375164

A great time is had until the ice mountain. If you have not become completely comfortable with the controls you are fucked. Even if you have, the last sloped path and jump to the exit will fuck you regardless.

No, the sudden difficulty is absolutely noteworthy. Up until before the first ice level, the levels are 5/10 worst. Then suddenly you have a solid 9/10 followed by a solid 10/10. There's a jump that isn't like anything else in the game as well as sloped ice. It feels like there was an interim level that they just yanked out or something.

Oddly enough, I also used to play this game with my cousin, and we got stuck at the same spot. If I remember correctly, some of the jumps are even harder with two players because you have to both perform them more or less simultaneously.

Its a shitty side-scroller, and not really worth your time

>>6375705
11 if you include the summit. Each stage has you progressively climbing a single mountain, so there is an incredible sense of progression.

I always like how u can see the lighting and evironment go from daytime to twilight to dead of night. Really cool.

No but I'm playing it because of this thread, actually. Never owned it as a kid and I had seen it and booted it up before in my roms but never really gave it any time. This thread convinced me to take another look and it really is a remarkable game.

I played this quite a bit as a kid. I could maybe get through half of it because there was such a steep hike in difficulty after about level 6. This is what the whole game looks like
