If you're import friendly give Oh No! A try. It's hilarious, has great music and really fun, simple game play with fun scenarios. I don't think it's expensive these days either if you want a legitimate copy. It's a good game for like a slow afternoon.

Good news OP the roms are actually free so you can just pirate everything pretty easy. I saved a /bundle/ on Valkyrie Profile by just burning it to a CD-R, works amazing too desu

The Ridge Racers are relatively cheap, although the ideal way to play is with the NegCon, which isn't cheap sorry to say. Beware of buying a used one, I bought a used black one (inb4 /pol/ meme) and it favors the left.

Just played this for the first time this week. Honestly a really interesting package. The puyo puyo-style vs/arcade mode is probably not the most engaging ive played on a technical level but the visuals and music make it fun, and the solo puzzle mode is pretty fun to go through and figure out how to achieve the most bonus you can in each one, the music is really moody and intense at times in solo mode too and just has a very different feel than the vs mode on the same disc, its basically 2 totally distinct games. Very based overall

Not meaning to throw shit at the N64 or anything, but it says a lot that I finished every game that interested me on the system in around 6 weeks. The main nintendo/rare games, and mischief maker. It doesn't really have much else. I'm still finding new PS1 games 20 years later. Obviously I could go back to the N64 and still enjoy those games, but PS1 has quantity as well as quality. Not if you like 2D games, 3D action games, scrolling shooters, arcade fighters, puzzle games (finally the industry moved on from tetris being 90% of puzzlers,) rhythm games, stealth and horror were all basically being invented and realized at the time.

It can be fun playing different versions of the same game, worse or otherwise, just to see what's different and how it was redesigned around this. I personally don't think Rayman 2 is some pure achievement of design that has only one right way to play. It's not like Ape Escape or Mario 64, where with the wrong controller there's no point in really playing.

i agree. rayman 2 is a fun 7-8/10 popcorn platformer. it's not ground breaking, but it can be fun to play over a couple of evenings as mindless fun. it's better than a lot of other mascot platformers, but nowhere near the quality of the best (or even the first game).

Wasn't really talking about that genre in specific because it's not a genre that was popular back then, and I was never a fan of the genre, but even if I was, I'd rather play 4th gen RPGs, yes, they have no loading times. Huge plus for already slow menu-based/turn-based games.

Neither the best of their respective series. Garou in particular gets fellated because of the overanimated sprites, but it's babby's first fatal fury, and nobody cared about SFIII when it came out, the daigo parry video made that game popular outside of the fighting community.

If you have the capability to play them, a lot of times NTSC J games are cheaper. I just picked up Silent Hill, Tail Concerto and Brave Fencer Musashi for a combined $70, and US copies of those 3 could easily hit $300 all together.

Right now I'm using the old disc swap method, but plan on grabbing a JP PS2 slim in the future to play my imports on.

Some good cheapies to grab are R4, the whole Need for speed series, the whole Twisted Metal series, the Tomb Raiders, basically any racing games and a lot of early action games.

A lot of the AAA games from back then are usually $20 and up, but there's a lot of fun to be had with $5 games still. You just need to dig a bit

Personally, I scour Ebay for disc only copies of games and sometimes find great deals. Like my copy of Castlevania SOTN I grabbed for $30.disc only at the time I was looking usually went for $50 and up, but I hung in there until I found a deal.

Mednafen has 3 frame input lag with Limited/Over game so no lag problems there.
