I don't know if necessarily better, but other retro games I enjoyed about as much as Thief are Blood, System Shock 2, Deus Ex and HoMM3. I'd still give the edge to TDP, though.
There's also Heretic and Hexen, but those don't count since they were the first games I ever played and my nostalgia and knowledge of those games clouds my judgement probably.
I also have to constantly remember myself of this board's definition of retro because I keep wanting to mention pre-2004 games.
