the remasters are good. there are a few changes from the originals but nothing too crazy. the biggest change i felt like was that the increased draw distance and movement speed changes the atmosphere of the games from claustrophobic dungeon crawl shooter to something more in line with q3a but they're good games either way. just make sure you turn off whatever hint systems they put in the remasters, that shit is for casuals

>> No.6344019

First Turok remaster is a blast. It feels like an entirely different game, though, as you blast around at a million miles per hour. I got bored of Turok 2 after a few levels just like I did on the N64 version.

The PC versons of Turok 1&2 are the definitive versions. Runs at 60fps, tons of graphic options, can switch between the PC and N64 soundtracks, and modern controls (plus Mouse and Keyboard support!). IIRC, the fog is turned off and draw distance is extended, but you can turn those on if you want to relive the original experience, but at 60fps.

Xbox One is good too. Switch is a bit compromised but still runs fine. The engine can't really run at full speed on Switch in Portable mode IIRC.

>> No.6345841

OP here. Enjoying it a great deal so far, though I turned the difficulty up to hard to counteract the faster movement.
Only real complaint I have so far is how there are so many blue portals but like 3 or 4 platforming challange areas per level so half the time you enter a portal and see you've been here already.

I've beaten both games on the PC. The remasters overall are great, but I can't recommend the second one in particular because it suffers from 'wherethefuckdoIgo' syndrome.

The levels are a maze, far too huge and messy so you will get lost constantly. The map system is horrendous as well, its just a wire frame that's no help whatsoever. Why wasn't a working map included in the 'remaster' as well?

Throughout history technical limitations have given outstanding gameplay and innovations. I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste, but this is a real life situation that occurs all the time in jungles - you need your wits about you or you will get lost, confused and surprised by enemies. Turok 3 will always have a large place in my heart. I was maybe 8 years old when it came out and me and my neighbour played it a ton. It felt really immersive compared to the earlier installments. The way the game begins in a city setting with people talking to you was something we had never seen in a game before. I still remember the scene where the bum peeks at you from a manhole and gets dragged off screaming, and you soon find his corpse being eaten by a four legged freak.

The 1st level had one of the keys made more obvious.
The 4th level had a reworked area made more visible instead of being hidden behind a cliff.

That's all the big changes I can remember.

How fucking stupid do you have to be to get lost in a video game? Just pick a direction, left or right, hug the wall and stick with that direction. Congratulations you will never get lost, you may wind up going in a circle occasionally but you will be able to recognize that fairly quickly.

It turns out this is actually the preferred method of escaping mazes:
https://www.naturalnavigator.com/news/2015/11/how-to-find-your-way-out-of-a-maze-or-labyrinth/

Just finished it. Its really really good all in all, the levels felt big and lived in, pacing was also well done. Combat was fun, even if im not sure why the shockwave gun and the alien weapon were so useless.
The final two bosses were sorta underpowered, the T-rex didnt even scratch me and i nuked the campaigner with the Chronoscepter, but I guess that is the intended way to kill him since you are spending the entire game building that weapon up.

My verdict is that its leagues better than Quake 1 and can stand by the good build engine titles without shame.Onwards to the second one.

All you remasterfag kiddies complaining about Lair of the Blind Ones, you know nothing, the version of the level you played was actually SIMPLIFIED from the original N64 version. It had many dead-ends created with sole purpose of getting the player lost, as in, "fuck you whoever is playing this, now spend the next week figuring out where to go or get filtered, faggot".

The original N64 version also didn't have babby shit like objective markers or ability to save and load anywhere. It also ran at like 12 fps (and you think 30 is unplayable). Imagine you dealing with all of this shit.

I don't have to imagine because I did that shit since the day Turok 2 released. The remaster is better in every way and the level is still annoying.

i played through turok 2 on n64 on hard mode without auto-aim. the shit was brutal and bordering on survival horror. at times it would be 2-3 HOURS of gameplay in between save points. blind ones is bad but hive is worse.

>the PC version is an absolute disaster
It was also Europe exclusive. I wonder if they used an unfinished build as the base for the PC version. What do you think about Escape from Lost Valley?

Not him but Escape from Lost Valley is a fun little game. A game based on the old comics was a neat idea.

nobody gets lost because they can't recognize their surroundings you fucking retard, they get lost because they can't find the way to proceed. humping a wall like a big faggot to backtrack isn't going to fucking help with that is it?

I used the auto map function of the game when I was a kid and never got lost. If the map wasn't drawn then I haven't explored that area. It may not have been ideal but having the map on screen really helps.

I wish Nightdive would do Turok 3 and Rage Wars.

As for the OP, yes the remasters are amazing, the game plays just as you remembered it played back in the day, which is not the case if you actually played the originals.

You need the Twitch program for installing, but most of them don't have DRM and don't need it running to play.

The thing I hated the most from the N64 version was the flashing blue screen when you grabbed those triangle tokens.
