So I've never played the original Paper Mario.

Should I?

Have you played and enjoyed TTYD? Do you enjoy games that have humor? Have you played and enjoyed any of the Mario & Luigi games? Do you like RPGs?

Nope
Yup
Yup
Yup

It's one of the best RPG's ever made, so yes.

Then yes. Then play TTYD. SPM changes the gameplay style, but I won't tell you not to play it.

I will.

Good. Have fun with it.

Yes. But if you're emulating it, use the Glide64 plugin to stop the flickering.

Yes. Make sure to play Thousand Year Door after it, not just on the grounds that it's an amazing game but because it refines a lot of what you see in the original that I had a hard time going back to it after TTYD.

Get to it.

I've never played TTYD. Paper Mario WAS my childhood. Should I play it? And good emulation for it?

>> No.637771

Yes. It's personally my favorite JRPG of all time. It has an amazing story, perfect atmosphere, great characters, and it's just a perfect game.

Eh, as somebody who loved the fuck out of Paper Mario I honestly didn't enjoy TTYD much. The story was good and funny but didn't reach the same heights that Paper Mario did for me, and the environments themselves were much more drab and and boring feelings than how lively and full of atmosphere everything from the original had.

Paper Mario is one of the few RPGs that I've beaten multiple times. TTYD is even better IMO, so play both. You should be able to find it in a bargain bin for a few bucks.

It works well on the latest version of Dolphin. It doesn't play as smoothly as the original Paper Mario because you do things like rotate the control stick, though with that said it's not impossible, you just press WDSAWDSA fairly quickly and it works.

I don't like it as much as the original, I think it tried to do too much with the formula, but literally everyone else likes it.

I've never liked this game really, and never understood the praise for it at all. Compared to the okay SMRPG it feels like a massive letdown in almost everything.

I played TTYD first (got it when it came out) and I'm playing through the original now.

The original is a great game, but it's not at the absolute masterpiece levels of TTYD. TTYD just has an extra level of charm to it, and some little things (like the crowd mechanic and being able to fold yourself into boats and planes) are really nice touches.

It works fine in Dolphin, even on my toaster.

Well maybe you should play the original original.

Then play paper mario. Both are great games though.
