Lego Racers. It's right at the outer edge of retro, but it's a fantastic game with the classic Lego charm.

If you want something a bit older, Lego Loco is fun for a while.

Only problem with both of them is physical copies are nigh unobtanium online. And local stores probably won't have a CD/N64 cart either.

The games i like are technically not retro according to /vr/ despite being very old so i cant say anything but some shallow jrpg

Princess Maker 2, it's literally peak comfy. I swear, it's not as gay as it looks. If you can get DOSBox up and running, it's abandonware and the original has way nicer sprites than the Steam rerelease anyway.

For an even better experience, pair it with some Italian progressive rock.

>abandonware
I've done a lot of research into this and I still can't really get a bottom line on whether or not it's acceptable. Before I get balls deep in it, what's the take

I think the DOS versiom is preferable to the refine version personally. The translation for the DOS version is perfectly fine and I think the original 256-color palette graphics are so much more charming than the smudgy remastered art. You can look up the differences for yourself but if you're willing to get DOSBox running, you'd also be saving yourself a good $20 or whatever they sell it for on Steam.

It doesn't mean shit if you get the abandonware. Watching an episode of anime on a streaming site puts you at a greater risk of legal trouble than downloading the DOS version of this would. Sure, that localization company doesn't like it a whole lot but what does that matter? It was leaked back in '97! I'm sure everyone on that team has moved onto bigger and better things.

When a game is rereleased it definitively ceases being abandonware, although one could very well argue that the remastered version isn't the same thing and so the original still isn't available for sale.
That's what abandonware means. The company no longer sells it. Nobody sells it NIB, so they can't give a fuck if you "steal" it ethically.

Played this at the suggestion of someone here and was completely absorbed. The English translation is great and it's a wonderful game for distraction, plus the story, graphics, and game play are great.

I did suggest the series at some point here. I remember when the eng translation for EN2 was out and somebody posted it here. Good Times. also, glad you like it. I was also completely hooked on both games.
