I suppose the weapons just seemed particularly uninspired to me. That's half the fun of a Mega Man game, I thought. Especially because the games are so similar to each other?

The gameplay itself was fine, at the time I just remember feeling as if I'd done all this before and had more fun in the process.

Maybe you could call it fatigue, but it's not a game I'm inclined to go back to.

The stages incorporated elements from every previous X game and some of the classic games, which was fitting considering it was meant to be the final game in the series.

I agree it had some misguided design decisions, but there's nothing as awful in X5 as some of the awful shit in X6 (donuts, Ground Scaravich's lazy copout of random over thoughtful design). The physics and basic gameplay were exactly the same as X4 and X6, so I'm not sure what you mean by bad gameplay.

X5 was a mixed bag of awesome ideas and unnecessary, poorly executed ideas. X6 was just lazy, bad design and barely did anything to disguise the blatant cashgrab it was.

Oh and X5's soundtrack is one of the best in the series.

Man, going back to Classic Mega Man after playing the X series really is a step down. I'm glad I played through those ones first, I'd have been quite disappointed if I did it the other way around.

Also, X2 is fucking great. These Sigma fortresses are brilliant. The stages fuck me over until I get the hang of it and can just breeze through it. Then the bosses start fucking me over. I'm looking forward to having to start over from the bgeinning because I didn't get all the Zero pieces though.

Also, is there a chronological list one on webpage of all the Megaman games? I want to play through as much as of the entire story by emulating everything on my PSP.
I know stopping at X5 is a good idea because I've heard the story goes to complete shit in x6. I'm just not sure where I should fit in the handheld games in amongst the NES/SNES/Playstation games.

X5 feels like the unimportant middle child.

>> No.603683

>>603297
Well seeing as no-one answered my quite stupid question I went ahead and made a list for myself. For the classic series I'm going with the order of:
>Megaman 1 (Alt: Megaman - Powered Up)
>Megaman 2
>Megaman: Dr Wily's Revenge (GB)
>Megaman 3
>Megaman II (GB)
>Megaman 4
>Megaman III (GB)
>Megaman 5
>Megaman IV (GB)
>Megaman V (GB)
>Megaman 6
>Megaman 7
>Megaman 8
>Megaman and Bass

Then I'll follow up with the X series (with the two GBC games coming in after X2 and X3 respectively), switch it up with Legends then Battle Network to prepare me for a final platforming run with the Zero series.

I don't why I'm telling you guys all this but I'm going to be busy for the next few months.

X5 is just a stupidified version of X4. They saw X4 and said "wow, this is pretty good, let's try to do it again" and then we got shitty stages like Grizzly Slash's and Squid Adler's. Actually, pretty much every single regular stage in X5 seems to be a rehashed version of a X4 stage. And don't get me started on the shit that's Duff McWhalen's stage.

Many songs aren't that great. Most of the most is very subpar when compared to the other games, especially X4 and X6. The stage design is either bland and lifeless or bad rehashes of X4 stages. X5 is such a fucking slow game. Zero feels so heavy, and he dashes so strongly. The game is so grounded. And my God, the massive slowdown I experience when those fucking spikes appear on the screen.

X4 just felt so much nicer and robust. The stages were well-designed and everything just fell into place and felt nice to control. And compared to X5, X6 is more like Super Hyper Mega Man X 6 Turbo Ultimate Super Badass Super Zero Edition. Yeah, I love that analogy.

X5 also has all that enigma/shuttle bullshit. People cry rivers about X6's randomness, but X5 plenty of it as well. And the parts system is downright retarded, I still haven't figured out how that shit works to this day and I frankly don't even care anymore. The Gaia armor is useless shit, but the falcon armor is probably the best armor to ever grace an X game. On the other hand, X6 has plenty of badass armors you can go wild with.

Duff McWhalen
The Skiver
Axle the Red
Mattrex

Virus Stage

The parts system is not difficult to figure out. If you beat all 8 stages within 10 hours (to account for Dynamo) you get 6 parts, each one is static to the stage but can change depending on whether you picked Energy+ or Weapons+. Ex: Skiver's Energy+ is Jumper while Weapons+ is Speedster (I think). If you take too much time escaping from failed stages you'll end up getting less parts (though 4 was the least I could ever get)

Is the proof on how not do a remake of a game when you do it with actual logic, with CAPCOM would be focusing more in the story or using it like if it were serious or dark in a game where the plot is kind of silly but really enjoyable and helps the game overall. Then adding unnecesary things like other modes or pretty cutscenes trying to give it value. Add the fact they didn't improved the graphics, they keep with their believing of old 2D things going 3D is a step forward. And i felt the controls more heavy... i always do with games that go from sprites to 3D.

Hey guys, let's play a fun little game of minor skill and major bragging.
Go get a six sided dice and an 8 sided dice (or just use this site: http://rolz.org/ ) and roll them.
The result of the d6 is the classic NES Megaman game you have to play (if playing 2, you must choose the highest difficulty).
The result of the d8 is the Robot Master from that game that you must buster duel (Going clockwise around the cycle from the top left box).
When you've got your RM, time how long it takes you to complete his stage and buster duel him into submission. You have as many attempts as you like but you don't get to reset the clock when you game over.
Here, I'll go first.
>4

Welp, looks like I'm buster-dueling Bright Man today. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Well fuck. I haven't played MM4 in a while and it shows. The middle section of the level is perfectly fine, it's just that I kept misjudging my jumps in the first corridor (fucking Lightbulb bugs, I gotta remember to stop shooting them) and the final section before the Wily Room (I kept forgetting to stop and wait for the pellets to go past me before jumping on the next set of curved platforms) so I didn't have many lives for when I got to Bright Man.
Fighting Bright Man wasn't that difficult. His pattern was as predictable as ever, the only problem was me keeping my jumping finger a little too eager when he was firing off his pellets, resulting in me jumping up into his upwards shots, and that movement freezing attack he has that forces you to wait until he gets around to hitting you.

Well, that was my attempt. Anyone else want to try?

Only other elves I used were every boss-reduction elf + healing elves for Seraph X, that bastard almost stopped me from beating the game entirely but when I got the sequel it felt weird to play it without beating him, so I went full out.
Goddamn did it feel satisfying to beat him without elves when I was older.

>>615191
Elf X does say at one point that he fought alone for so long that he stopped caring about his opponents, I imagine that would've been what made him go evil.
I'm glad that they changed it to be a copy, personally - playing the series as a kid, having to suddenly kill the real X would've felt... uneasy, not to mention it'd taint the X games knowing he would later on go evil no matter how kind and pacifistic he appeared. It'd just make playing either series uncomfortable, and a kid shouldn't feel uncomfortable with the game they're playing.
Besides, what would happen to Elf X in that scenario? Would he just... not exist? Would X be split into a good and evil half? Huh?

Blueprint for a Mega Man reboot:
- 3D over the shoulder shooter
- Bright happy atmosphere, active metropolis. Art-style of MM8
- Mission based gameplay, where Mega Man is teleported to different stages which are just different regions. Regions are revisited for different missions
- Most "boss-stage" missions involve saving humans as well as killing enemies, before the boss shows up to fight you (Think Gutsman at construction site)
- Weapons interact with environment, allowing for creative use of weapons as well as lots of secrets and sidequests
- First "Wily Stage" is simply when Wily attacks the City with all 6 robot masters. Mega Man has to go around defeating all 6 while trying to save the City

Kuwanger's tune is a party starter.

>>622304

This is the real reboot:

- Main character is Bad Box Art Megaman.
- The plot is about him dealing with the 40's crisis for still working in the low ranks of the major corporation known as "Maverick Hunters".
- He's getting old and even more bitter like Al Bundy (Married with Children).
- The Maverick are deficient regular task robots.
- The characters interact like the Tick series = awkward people with no glamorous life.

How's that?, i think is the only way that Maverick Hunter could continue without being sadly generic.

I suggest a sim-style game where you try to get Megaman to rise through the ranks. The maverick fights can be off-screened, or played as a minigame if we really want to keep them, but the main focus is making Megaman popular and getting him that promotion.

Zero has a hard time against Nightmares. It takes 5 slashes to kill them. The Z-Buster works pretty well against them in Xtreme but the majority of Nightmares are floating above or below you or teleporting around instead of stanfing at ground level.

You have to use X and Zero for each stage appropriately to get past Xtreme mode. Plus if you get Zero you can get the Shadow armor parts early (double jump helps so much to get the pieces in Blaze Heatnix and Blizzard Wolfgang's levels). To get the piece in Rainy Turtloid's stage, lure some Battons close to the spike trap and take the hit, dash through, climb the wall and aim to get hit again, make that last dash through. Helps if you have the 2x invincibility part or hyper dash. Nonetheless with Shadow Armor you can get the particularly hard to get reploids a lot more safely.

>> No.630175

I like the prospect of rescuing reploids, but X6 and 7 were just so hamfisted about it. They're more like hovering powerups than people. And 7 was a bitch about them dying randomly. Even moreso than X6 since there's more than one kind of enemy that can cause it.

And Zero felt more like a tease in X3 than anything. It was cool the first time in the intro stage, but the novelty wore off quickly when you realized he was just a reskinned X with a maxed out health bar and a wonky charge attack.

See, you say never, but I think it's a timing issue which comes back to >>632730, as I've had him just rush me before I could get out of his ties. Sure, there's probably a way to doing it right and you've been doing so, but that's more of an AI exploit than, say, how CP is just stupid easy in general.

>> No.632775

>>632748

Crush Crawfish is faster though, and even though he has a simple pattern lots of players still take a hit because he requires more precise dash jumping to survive, whereas Chill Penguin can be beaten if you more or less move anywhere out of his direct path

>> No.632786

>>632772
If you keep on wall-jumping while his ties pull you down the wall, he will send his claw above your head. If you don't, he'll either shoot a claw at you or rush you like you said. It is a bit specific, I guess, but as far as AI exploits go, it's foolproof.

>x2 music bad

Can someone tell me why X2 has bad music again?

It has more variety than fucking X3 which is literally just generic metal music with a god awful synth.

>> No.632892

Yeah, and they're practically the same. X1's soundtrack is so vastly superior, it's not hard to believe they switched composer.

They're OK. In any other franchise, they'd be highlights.

But this is fucking Mega Man. Since the first game, more than half the music's been so far off the regular scale you'd think each game presented a best-of selection. The songs you mentioned blend into the millions of other good mega man themes and end up not begin very notable.

Absolutely garbage taste. I've nothing against 2, but you should feel bad for not liking the sweet licks in Blast Hornet, Doppler Base 1, Toxic Seahorse, Vile's Stage, or Zero's Theme.

X2 admittedly has almost no tracks I don't like (the 2nd X-Hunter base music being mediocre), although Crystal Snail gets a bit heavy on the WAHM.

I often seem to forget to list Gravity Beetle; like in my head I put it there, but then I look and it's not. My bad.

Agreed on Tunnel Rhino, and I also don't personally like Neon Tiger or Crush Crawfish's tracks. Or Doppler's battle theme. Everything else is dope though.

The good songs in X3 are still very lackluster compared to X1 and X2.

I will admit Gravity Beetle is a fantastic theme shame X3 doesn't have more songs like that.

>>633028
To you I guess; the ones I put up are in the same boat for me as any of the X2 masters (sans Crystal Snail and Overdrive Ostrich, which I would place lower) and X-Hunter Base 1.

X1 I can't really make any comments on comparison, because even though I like them on the same level as the aformentioned tracks, X1 has the added quality of being the only X game where I like 100% everything in the OST. So even if there are parts of 2 or 3 that I like, and even if that's the majority of the OSTs of each, X is still flawless.

That said, I don't allow that to negate my love for the music present in either of them, nor the later titles that came as time went on.

Very true, but the artist took quite a bit of liberties with Alia's bodyshape... Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Marino on the other hand? You get a feeling she was built for something more than just stealth and combat missions... *Hint!* *Hint!*
