these are really good to play with other people, i'd also recommend playing the compile era games so that you get to know the series best period.
They're very fun games with cute art and i would take some form of puyo to an inescapable island with me.
(Puyo Puyo Vs is a great fangame that focus on internet play, it's free and really fun!)

But Mean Bean Machine is based off of Puyo 1, and Puyo Puyo 2 added new rules that make the game a lot more fun.

They're both pretty much the same, just depends on if you want Kirby or Robotnik. I prefer MBM personally.
