I live in the US, pretty sure they showed it here on Adult Swim or something. No one I knew besides the aforementioned neckbeards actually watched it. I tried a couple of times but just couldn't get through an episode.

Ah, yeah, americans usually get into anime stuff later than the rest of the world.
My country got Evangelion on TV in the year 2000. Before that, it was popular but only within anime fans.

there are plenty on saturn and the best of all no censorship, the definitive version of Kotetsu no girlfriend is on saturn the others even the PC version are censored (the pc version was based on the ps1 which was censored) to prove this just remember the start of the game a robot appears while asuka is taking a shower but ps1 and pc version showed asuka bottom half with a dark shado on the other hand you get to see asuka fully naked on the saturn version.

That much I could guess, it's rare to get good licensed anime games in 5th gen anyway.
But what I'm curious about is that Sega themselves developed the ones that were exclusive for the Saturn. How is the one in the OP pic, for instance? A friend of mine who is a big Eva fan insists that it's a good addition to the Saturn library.

>> No.6307593

They...exist, one is a visual novel and the others are RPG's but the stories aren't exactly that amazing and worth checking out, neither are the games themselves really.

Honestly, Super Robot Wars would be a good bet but they heavily change Evangelion's story, as in, pratically all of them have the pilots becoming more competent and badass than in canon and completely wrecking Seele, stopping Instrumentality and making Gendo lose badly, they only somewhat follow the plot, even the SRW games using Rebuild give a happier ending, like Shinji actually managing to save Rei and through sheer force of will stopping the process of the Third Impact and thus Earth is perfectly fine much to Gendo's horror.

Still, those games are fun at least, and Hideaki Anno himself approved of those games, Gainax didn't want them because well, happier ending and feel, but i guess Anno wanted some version of the Evangelion characters to give Gendo a complete destruction of his plans.

The anime is pretty meh, a 6 out of 10. The manga is actually very good, a solid 8,5 out of 10. The manga is the original scrip before Hideaki Anno stepped in and started changing stuff, making them way worse. Watching the anime was like a chore for me, but reading the manga was quite enjoyable.

>> No.6308071

>>6307593
...Yeah, I gotta agree with this one, assuming you want Shinji to actually grow a pair and tell his dad to go fuck himself. Which TMK alot of people wanted out of the series to begin with but I digress...

The only thing I remember about trying to watch it was the main character having some kind of fucked up monologue in his head about how much of a failure he is or something and it went on for fucking ever

>> No.6308174

>>6308148
The anime drags out on some scene for quite a long time, mainly because the director fucked up with the budget and they didn't have enough money even if the fanboys try to defend it saying that those scenes are that long because they have a deep meaning, which isn't the case. For example, like 90% of the fourth episode of the anime is the main character walking around the countryside thinking if he really wants to take part in all the shit that's going on, then finds a friend out camping, then some soldiers makes him go back to the base, that's the whole 20-minute episode. In the manga, all that happens in like 5 pages of a 40-something pages chapter.

>The manga is the original scrip before Hideaki Anno stepped in and started changing stuff
Anno is the creator so he can hardly be said to have stepped in. Sadamoto also says in one of the interviews included with the manga that the manga is strictly his personal interpretation of the characters, and never suggests that its closer to the original outline

I don't wanna make a new thread about this but I'd learn jap if only to play the Nadesico game, filling the gap between the series and the movie.

It's absolutely fantastic and my favorite Saturn exclusive but I can't say it exactly fills in the gap since it has a wide variety of what-if scenarios rather than one single story and doesn't touch on what happened with Akito.

The show was written for TV and Anno was always at the helm.

>the director fucked up with the budget
You mean Sega fucked up in general, because they were the main sponsor. It's the reason EoE became a thing and has like four other studios involved: they were holding out for a bigger budget once the show was proven a success, but because their sponsor was Sega in the mid-late 90's, the well was dry.

Eva and anime as a whole have so much bullshit made up about them.

>> No.6308430

It's funny how Eva is still successful at triggering certain kind of people 25 years later. No matter how, if these people see anything eva, they go out of their way to let everyone know about how evangelion "isnt't that great" and they try to impress ypu with meaningless (and often wrong) trivia such as "the creator was suicidal and didn't know what to do until the very end, the ending was made up as production went" (wrong btw, the general outline of the story and the ending were stablished at least as early as 1993).
Anyway, digitaal card library has some OK minigames.

Well, then SRW is there, and i like that a big part of the reason why Shinji becomes more competent and badass is...that the games add a lot more characters and organizations trying to fight the Angels, and a lot of the other pilots and fighters talk to Shinji and help him train, are friends with him and try breaking him out of his shell, sure, there are people with problems, but overall it leads to a much more supportive and friendly environment to Shinji, as well as giving him more reason to go out and fight, plus extra support is always nice.

Can't forget the SRW games that have one or two Angels actually being beaten by the other organizations that manage to break through the AT Field through sheer firepower astounding NERV and SEELE into becoming speechless, so Shinji gets a lot more firepower as support, seriously, SRW Alpha 3 for the PS2 even has the End Of Evangelion ending happening with the mass produced Evas making that Tree Of Life thing, people exploding and giant crosses appearing as Eva 01 becomes pratically a God...only for Asuka, Rei and some others who are too individualistic, hotblooded and hate Gendo and this idea so much to still be fighting and beat Eva 01 without killing Shinji and reversing Instrumentality.

Like i said, SRW is basically what you want for good endings and somewhat the traditional story, only adding more people being able to create weapons that can handle the Angels and NERV and SEELE not managing to trick the governments into becoming the only true organization handling everything.

That and said organizations being able to hire or get somewhat nice and normal pilots who aren't jerks to or ignore a 14 year old kid.

That makes sense... the scenario you described sounds like what I remembered, it was the guy Shinji and it just like kept showing his face and expressions and he was just inner dialogue shit.. I distinctly remember it because it was one of the times I through it on when it was on Adult Swim just to have as background and watch here and there... after losing interest with the inner monologue shit I just went back to what I was doing looked back up at some point later and this motherfucker is STILL monologing. I just turned it off after that.
