Will I like this if I like Resident Evil?

yeah maybe, its very similar but not literally RE with dinosaurs like some people say

yeah, it's literally RE with dinosaurs.
DC2 is better.

just play it for yourself.
DC1 is RE with faster mobs and a full 3D environment.
DC2 is a run and gun action game with collectables.

Dino Crisis 1 is a pretty cool game despite its shortcomings.

Pros:
-No knife or equivalent weapon
-Enemies are faster than zombies
-Puzzles of greater difficulty than in RE
-You are not showered with ammo

Cons:
-Little enemy diversity
-Able to save as many times as you want
-Indoors scenery is kind of dull and samey

Off topic but what are some other games with similar camera movements and tank controls?

alone in the dark, silent hill, fatal frame

Yes

It's not just RE with dinos. Specially in the first game, you'll see that your pistol is really bad against the most common enemy, the raptor. You'll also realize that the shotgun is sorta like an all-in-one weapon, because it can both fire slugs and darts (which can put enemies to sleep or poison them).

Also, there are some sort of events where Regina is attacked and you have to mash out of the situation (they're inescapable, you have to pass them).

It has a lot more "movie-like" moments compared to RE, but they're pretty different. Back then, people called DC "Survival Panic" instead of "Survival Horror" to differentiate them. The difference is that there are way less enemies (normally only 1 or 2 per room), but they're way more nimble than RE zombies.

Dino Crisis 2 is almost completely different. It's sorta like an early PS2 game. It's much more arcade-like than the first one, and that's probably the reason people find it much more enjoyable than DC1.

Galerians, Vampire Hunter D, Nocturne, Deep Fear, OverBlood, Onimusha, Countdown Vampires, In Cold Blood

They're all shit besides Onimusha.

Not retro.

Don't talk about Galerians like that in my presence.

Guess the subgenre is shit then besides Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and Silent Hill (and Alone in the Dark if you can tolerate point-and-click adventure tier batshit retarded puzzles).

>>6298734
It's better than the others but I don't consider it good.

>> No.6298792

I didn't like it. Every area was a dull gray corridor. Every puzzle was a keycard match or something annoying. It's not bad but I wont be back.

How is this a con? What if I don’t have 6 hours straight to beat a game?

Why are you even in this thread?

>> No.6298851

>>6298814
In Resident Evil, you have to consume an item to save, which makes where and when you save a strategic decision. Dino Crisis did away with this, so you don't really have to think about when you save.

>> No.6298857

>>6298851
It should also be mentioned that they gave you enough to save semi-frequently, but not enough to spam saves every chance you get.

Holy shit this is gatekeeping at it's peak

>Gatekeeping
Try to understand what words actually mean before you use them? And the OP is asking if DC is like RE, and here you are not even knowing the basic fundamentals of RE.

Well, it was a research facility in the middle of a forest. The sci-fi stuff is relegated to the lower floors, but even then it's just a normal facility with dinos roaming around.

>> No.6299287

I loved it, but I never finished it. I fucked up and ended up with an impossible save and didn't feel like starting anew. Maybe I should. I think I still got it on PSN...or is there some fancy emulation with mods like with RE?

>> No.6299324

>>6299287
>emulation with mods
No clue but given it's a PSX game it's not hard to emulate to begin with so there's that.
