Defender of the Future continued looking graphically astonishing for like a decade after release. Thanks mostly I suspect to the use of underwater fog meaning draw distance didn't have to be huge so the nearby environmental poly count could be decent, along with the well animated high poly animals and projection based surface light effects.

It's a cast study in how to exceed the limitations of hardware with clever game design that I would compare closely to the mini-planets level design in Mario Galaxy which permitted individual planetoids to be high poly since you're only ever close up to one at a time, and the ones in the distance LOD all the way down to sprites

I miss that feeling of pseudo-profoundness that you get as a pre-teen.
The first time I remember feeling it was when I saw The Breakfast Club, and it gave me a really weird feeling, kinda like sadness, and I remember feeling that the movie meant something important.
So I would make really lame Google searches like "whats the meaning of the breakfast club" to try and scratch the itch, but obviously it wasn't that deep, so I was ultimately unfulfilled.
Now I'm jaded and cynical and media doesn't affect me, and I want to go back.

The only argument in favor of the Genesis original version is the music, but you can create your own custom soundtrack due to the Sega CD version using CD audio for music, so you can add the original Genesis music if you want (the Sega CD soundtrack is amazing as well, anyway)

Depends, many of them require memorization since the game is mostly underwater mazes with puzzles, backtracking and to top it off, limited oxygen. I'd say check points are a welcome addition. Not the main reason to play the Sega CD (that'd be the extra levels), but another nice extra.

Yeah but the way they're designed there are always air pockets and once you do know where you're going you can usually get there pretty fast if you did die. To me though Ecoo is a game all about having that patience under pressure. Singing sonar to make a starfish cluster move and having to be precise each time and be swift because you're running out of air but also careful... That's the sweet spot of that game's fun to me. And when I played the normal version I never thought it needed checkpoints aside from maybe before the Asterite but that's just my griping about that boss.

Incorrect. On returning to the future you would find that your furfag dolphin fuckpod never existed, yet there they are, sucking and fucking and eating ass. The only possibility is that, as the game very clearly shows, Ecco's actions were preordained from the very start. In fact, by luring the land cetacians back to the sea he spawned the very world he came from and the exact causal circumstances which led to his existence and choice of actions. Atoms in an endless dance. Nothing means anything. We perceive only our boundless slavery. Thank you Ecco, you have shown me that there is no truth. The stars on your forehead are like the stars in the sky.

You're describing timeline delta, which is the exact loop you describe. Alpha, beta, and gamma timelines all had to exist "prior" to delta's loop.

Trellia literally pulls you out of a dead timeline dude there can't be a loop because there's a fucking dead timeline

>> No.6326232

>>6326219
Nope. Not him but there's only one real timeline with the vortex future being a splinter. You also sound like the guy who was calling Ecco morally grey because you thought he wiped out humans or some dumb shit.

>> No.6326253

>>6326229
That's not a dead timeline. That's her timeline, she's his descendant. But there was a second timeline that got started by the vortex which is why Trellia goes back to get Ecco so he can end it and return to one timeline again.

>not him but there's a splinter
So there's a dead timeline. Amazing. Thank you for admitting this. The "splinter" timeline you refer to is known in the Ecco community as "timeline beta"

>> No.6326284

>>6326253
She's his descendant from timeline gamma, and she pulls him out of beta, because if she doesn't then gamma and delta won't exist. Delta is a looping timeline created from gamma. Ecco The Dolphin takes place in alpha, and because some events only took place in particular timelines there is no possibility that the game *starts* from a closed causal loop. It is the start of a closed causal loop, like you might imagine a piece of string would be before it's tied into a loop.

The second one is fact and the first one makes a lot more sense than "it's a time loop that has isn't a loop until the end and every time between the beginning and end" because that's not a LOOP

The Asterite, Guardian of the Seas, helps him travel through time to find his pod. It orders Ecco to destroy the time machine now that Ecco has formed a causal loop in timeline delta so that time can't be disrupted again.
So he says fuck that and takes the time machine far beyond The Asterite's reach, just to do whatever he wants with no oversight and the brain of a dolphin throughout all eternity.

>> No.6328634

>>6328335
Lol the Asterite isn't his god and your take on that is bonkers. Ecco goes into the time stream at the end because he's finally fully completed his mission.

I understand your argument just fine, I simply think it's utterly wrong. There's no evidence in the game that any of the oceanic characters saw the Asterite as a god or that the Atlanteans did either, it's just your opinion on what a dolphin's take on the world would be. The way you describe the ending of ToT as him "defying his god for his own personal benefit or amusement" is completely ridiculous.
