I prefer to think of it as purity. I know it's just because it was a launch title but still the fact that there is zero visual clutter, no confusing decals or weird bullshit interfering with your perception of the level design gives it a different appeal. I would be very skeptical about any assets being added if they were to do a remake. It's best as an abstract series of obstacle courses.

I like collect-a-thons but I really feel like Mario does not do them very well at all. In replay, the only area suffering from insufficient content density is the castle overworld section. I would’ve preferred some NPCs or something to make it feel less barren. romhacks suck. What nintendo did with the game is best. Take a look at Snoman's Land and see just how dense it is with little unique crevices and slopes. There is actually a lot to interact with in that very small space. It's quite expertly designed to exhaust the capabilities of the movement engine and how Mario interacts with sleeps of varying steepness, not to mention ice surfaces and the wind. Even the falling snow is disorienting so as to up the challenge. I recommend playing in such a way where you manipulate the camera minimally, as little as you can get away with. This will help you appreciate the design point I'm trying to illuminate.

again, my ‘claim’ as you put it is just common sense. i’m trying to get you to use your critical thinking skills but it appears you are devoid. no wonder then that you are so attached to the crude aesthetics of a video game from your childhood, which with any luck should end any time now.

>moving the goal posts
you were arguing that the artstyle for the ds remake would have been the artstyle of the orignal game if they had the tech to do it
you're words, exactly, were
>they changed it because it’s what they would have looked like originally if the developers had enough experience with 3D modelling/if the hardware would accommodate it.
you haven't proven this. instead you've just been repeating "common sense!" and "critical thinking!" (which aren't the same thing, btw) in between insults.

because it is common sense, and you would reach the answer using critical thinking if you were capable. the post you are replying to doesn’t attempt to move goalposts at all, it simply reiterated what has already been said.
if the question is ‘why did they change the models?’ the answer is obviously ‘because they wanted them to look more like mario characters’. if the question is ‘why didn’t they look like mario characters before?’ the answer is obviously ‘hardware limitations’
i’d hope you’ll one day stop being so retarded, but midwittery is eternal.

you're so angrily obsessed with memes that you're ignoring how they changed a chunk of the game's aesthetic. It isn't a graphical update, it's a reskin. Just because it's clearly your favorite version doesn't mean other people have to like it. cope

you've been deflecting this whole thread. prove that the redesigns were what the games developers always intended the game to look. until you do that all you're doing is bumping the thread and handing out (you)s
also, no one gets this desperate and angry about people criticizing something unless they're really fond of that thing. you clearly have an emotional connection to the remake, and I'm not the first itt to notice.

yeah, this thread
reread it
once again, you said that bubba, the fish with the sunglasses in the original game, was always intended to look like a regular cheep-cheep, like he does in the remake, but didn't originally because of technical limitations.
you're claim, not mine.
If you prove this, then you will have "utterly done me in". It's an easily provable claim to, you just need a quote or a piece of concept art. easy peasy
