Can pokemon battles even be kino in the games themselves? They're all basically the same, just have a higher leveled pokemon and a type advantage and one hit KO your pokemon, nothing suprising ever happens in the battles, Pokemon i somehow an even more basic RPG than Dragon Quest.

The closest I can think of to an actual kino battle was Ghetsis in Gen 5 because his team was built to destroy that legendary you just got and even then he just spams toxic and protect like a tourneyfag with that egyptian coffin pokemon.

You answered your own question. People will *say* they want more interesting battles, but the second the enemy starts to actually use some strategy and all the tools the player can, they want things to go back to normal.

It was a bit of a psychological trick the first time. You've been trapped in a tedious cave fighting zubats, you just got to a town that's bigger than any you've seen before and you're not sure how far north it goes, nobody has ever challenged you to a battle inside a town area so you figure exploring a little before you hit up that pokemon center you saw can't hurt. It's good writing, putting that encounter right after the first cave.

Even as a kid I always would save every time I exited and entered a town or cave and often in between. The idea of losing 2 hours of game time is a foreign concept to me in any game that allows saving at any time.
