Does /vr/ have any recommendations of good, old, yet distinctly cult classic, dark, or otherwise odd games for me? Pic related: a game you either find hilarious and appreciate it for its attempt at parody or you feel it had to have been by and for psychos.

Phantasmagoria II
Rapurasu no Ma (this one has an english translation, but just the one on SNES).

If by psychos you mean people with no taste in adventure games.
Most FMV games, except the few good ones like Tex Murphy, apply. Foxhunt for example.

It's an RPG, they send you to investigate a mansion where a mysterious crime happened years ago. There are various mechanics, but I dont know which ones are present in the SNES version because there are versions for PC Engine CD, PC98 and X68000.

Sounds interesting. So only the SNES version is translated? I might check it out and see if there is a fan translation for PC.

Harvester. Such a surreal, off-putting game. Caused a fuckton of controversy when it came out. Warranted enough attention that PC Gamer made a walkthrough for it across two issues.

Be warned, it's almost z-movie acting levels.

Space/King's Quest and the Lara Bow series.

Despite it's humor, there's something really sinister about those game. You're always alone and everything is out to horribly murder you. It doesn't help that the devs enjoyed putting bullshit deaths in the game.

It's hard to find good info or videos on it, but there was the ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK game on PC, "The Tale of Orpheo's Curse", I had it as part of the software suite that came with my windows 95 comp at the time, and let me tell you, as bad as some of that stuff could scare a kid at the time, the worst was the "Limbo" ending you could get if you fuck up near the end of the game, which just makes the game play a fucking horribly loud SINEwave while the characters scream.

Fuck. That.

>> No.636923

>>636836

Got it to work, without doing anything special (just mounted the iso). The quicktime installation failed, though. The game was freezing for around 10 seconds every time I encountered a character, otherwise it was fine.

Although I do like Poe, I wasn't very thrilled by the game... oh well, at least some people will enjoy it.

That's a damned shame. I thought maybe Levine might see money for it since I'd much rather him see a sale for this game than Infinite. Then maybe he would start making 1999 style games instead of 2 weapon only "modern" crap... A man can only dream.

I guess I won't be getting it on steam and just keeping my old original CD and the GOG version I have. I bought Deus Ex several times to also give Spector money and look what happened to him...
