Wasn't there already a mouselook patch/hack on the Gog forums?

Or you could just play the Mac version.

Mouselook in pre-Quake engine games is always hideous, awkward and best not used and mouse movement is a nice secondary option for precise movement, anyway. But!
>increase mouse sensitivity by 4 times
Now that's possibly worth using. DF has unplayably low mouse sensitivity, getting around it with mouse drivers or Dosbox settings ruins accuracy in a way in-game sensitivity settings never would. Maybe I'll give this piece of fish a go.

>> No.6261631

Oh boy, it increases mouse movement speed by 4 as well. Even I, a great lover of having a mouse movement option who laugh at the wussy wankers who can't handle default Doom mouse controls, find this very difficult to control.

Nice!

>>6260287
This mouselook works a lot better for me than GlovePIE or FreePIE scripts.

>>6261631
I think you may try to lower mouse sensitivity from the game main menu to somehow compensate it.

Yeah, first thing I tied but that of course affects the turning too, so it's hard to strike a balance. I managed to make it playable by not using the autorun option. So it'll never be as smooth to play as a Doom or Build engine game and I have to pick and choose whether I want to have decent control or to go fast (by holding down a button like it's the dark ages) but it's an improvement over the severe mouse turning speed limitations Lucasarts imposed.

Autorunning indeed makes things harder. To be fair DeHacker warns about it with the hint text at the bottom line, there also some details in the readme file.
I'm already finished a couple of levels on hard difficulty with autorunning on. The major issue there is that you'll need to remember to hold down the run key to walk in some places since this hack revert run key logic (i.e. running when run key not pressed and walking when you hold it down). The end of the sewers level was a real pain for me so far because I need to perform a few precise jumps but the platforms too small so I jump too far or fall down since I can't stop my momentum. Making those jumps while holding run key to slow down was much easier.
The fun thing is that there are three walking modes in the game: normal walk, running and slow mode. And I'm not sure anyone uses last one, but I'm not far in the game yet so this probably for levels with tiny catwalks or to sneak up on enemies.

The mouselook is 100 times better than the glovepie solution. This new version doesn't accelerate your pitch when holding down shift. Also, It has enough of a deadzone that your camera doesn't spastic-ally jump up and down when your trying to turn.

I am one of the admins of DF-21, and the author asked if I could update the pcgaming wiki (as english isn't his first language). Anyone have some experience and want to take a swing at it?

nice, this is actually playable now
not quite doom level of control but its finally good enough imo

Implemented the fix in my '4chan dospack'
The old option of using GlovePIE scripts gave some users false positives with their antivirus.
CHEATER did a great job again, like he did with PowerSlave DeHacker

Not that I don't appriciate free games m8, but any chance of a list of games in that rar and what you've done to them if they're modified?

>> No.6265957

There is a list of included games in the readme file under the Dos Games folder, it also tells which fixes were applied etc.

Limited Run Dark Forces Special Edition March 20th. Nice.

There's also one for Jedi Knight / Mysteries of the Sith.

That's pretty hot, but is this just a repacking of the game in DOSbox or the proper Windows version? Seems a little pricey even if it is a nice little bundle. I'd understand the price more if it had an artbook instead of just some cards.

>> No.6269474

>>6269469
>the proper Windows version?
The what? Surely, there is no such thing. You can bet it's nothing but an uneccesary Dosbox package. I'll never understand why Dosbox is packaged with so many games, computer illiterates with a taste for old games must now have hundreds of versions of Dosbox installed at once. It's so stupid.

Maybe his memory is a bit twisted, because Dark Forces did work on Windows 95 back in the day. Win 95 basically still had Dos running under the hood and the GUI was more like a graphical layer.

Sad.

I remember playing it with a friend. We couldn't get past level 2 because we didn't know you could jump. We only played Doom before.

They would need to fix the perspective so that the 640x400 is properly vertically stretched. Nobody wants fat stormtroopers.

Also, they would need to fix it so that the HUD actually covers the window rather than a black bar at the bottom.

at this rate, even fucking graf working on this would be a blessing.
