Would you rather own a sega cd or a sega saturn ? You can't have both.

>> No.6252090

If we're talking strictly Sega CD only, I prefer Saturn.
If we're having into account the Genesis library, then obviously Genesis, but mostly for the Genesis alone.
Sega CD is nice but Saturn is just better and has more games.

>> No.6252106

You mean a Genesis CDX or just a regular Sega CD vs a Saturn? Because if we're talking about the games, the Saturn has more appealing titles over the Sega CD.
If it's the CDX I'd might go with it because of the rarity and because of the Genesis titles, but that's still a tough choice.

>> No.6252115

Saturn for damn sure. There are nowhere near as many quality gems on the SCD as there are the Saturn. Hell I'll take Saturn for the Capcom games alone.

>> No.6252185

>>6252178
I use Psuedo Saturn to play burnt games and it works, which is good because unless you want to import Saturn games can be pricey, especially for the shit Saturn port of DOOM. This isn't like the Dreamcast too where you can just burn a CD-R and it'll play natively, you'll probably need to mod it or look up a red Psuedo Saturn cart to by-pass region locks and play burnt disks just fine.
Some games though are in a weird file format like .mdi or .mds, but converting them into .bin and .cue files with Alcohol 52% worked out in the end for me.

Keep in mind most internet knowledge on burning game back ups dates back to the 90s, with 90s tech, 90s PCs, 90s OSes and 90s rumors. I personally doubt it will kill your CDX.

Saturn is easy as hell really, just get a cartridge, toss it in, burn your game, toss it in, press play and you're done.

>> No.6252293

>>6252283
i dont think it will kill it either. sounds good i will learn how to do this stuff.

>> No.6252329

>>6252259
It's not as complicated as it sounds. I had problems at first since with Imgburn I could burn games great but it would always produce a corrupted file when I converted mdf/mds to bin/cue. It caused some frustration but after a while I was burning a stack of Saturn games with no problem. Keep in mind not all Saturn games are in this weird mdf/mds format, most are in simple bin/cue files which should burn fine by almost any image burning software.
Also I dont think it will break your laser, unless you try diskswapping. But even then you should be good.

>> No.6253290

Everyone should listen to this guy and burn isos onto a blank data disc. Soft mod Saturn does wonders with the psuedo Saturn Kai lite V6.037.

Croc, NBA Jam, Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Panzer Dragoon Saga are the only few (and maybe 4 other titles) that you'll need the original discs in order to play.

I've had my Saturn soft modded since 2017. No laser issues here, only because you're suppose to burn the data CDs at a certain speed. Now enjoy the Saturn like Japan did until the year 2000 and on. And don't forget to put a coin sized battery in the system for internal memory saving.

Why can't you play Panzer Dragoon Saga? I burnt some discs and the first one played just fine.

Saga has anti-cheat protection which reads the cartridge slot randomly and will boot you back to the BIOS if it detects a cartridge in the slot. May work fine with memory cards but it happens with action replays/psuedo saturn carts. Seems to trigger during load sequences, so before or after battles, between rooms, etc. It's possible to beat the game with the annoyance but it is an annoyance to factor in.

That said, it should work most of the time - just save often. The system should run PAL games just fine if you're using psuedo saturn or something.

>> No.6253418

Maybe a Thunderforce collection with updated cd quality soundtracks.

First of all, not fair.

Second of all, you have to clarify if the big thick azin J is involved... What you are proposing is catastrophic without critical information at hand. For example, first of all, Genesis, nuff said. But while Warsong is a fun game, Langrisser II is a great game. And while Langrisser II is a great game, Langrisser IV is fucking legendary. The US Saturn is like turning on the console but without its joypad, it just can't compete without its big thicc swarmy J games library. It's a tough call I'd hope I never have to make, but if its US only releases, I'd slightly incline to CDX if I get all Genesis and SegaCD games. But really, probably Saturn, and definetly Saturn if its actual full game library is involved.

The Sega CD library is one of my favorite game libraries of all time. If you look past the memes and ignore the FMV shit, Sega was taking chances on the kinds of games that weren't being localized for the SNES. Maybe it was out of a desperation for content, but whatever. For a lot of people, Snatcher was their first VN experience. And almost a decade prior to Fire Emblem being introduced to the West, Shining Force CD was filling that void. Personally, I'm not a fan of the 5th gen. I think companies were falling all over themselves to push 3D. CDs allowed 16-bit games to feature near unlimited art, voice acting, redbook audio. Game companies threw it away for sub 30 fps jank, atrocious camera experimentations, whack controllers. The Sega CD gave us a brief glimpse at what could've been. Instead, consumers became unwitting testers in what should've been happening behind the scenes in R&D. I remember playing stuff like Clockwork Knight, Toshinden, Shadows of the Empire, thinking... if THIS is what they're putting on the shelves, I'm gonna have to be way more careful with my money. I wasn't overly concerned with game reviews, magazines, or rentals until the 5th gen.

While I don't think the Sega CD library is good at all, I share your sentiments. I remember playing shit like Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Empires and wondering how anyone could enjoy games where you couldn't even see anything the graphics were so bad.
