It's not very good or fun. Wondering if I should even finish. I remember enjoying part 2 as a kid. But this one is boring.

The first game? It's pretty short and kind of generic but I enjoyed it. It's better than the endless slog of 3 and 4.

1 is definitely "worse" than 2. I also played 2 first then tried 1 and it was kinda underwhelming but I don't regret playing it.

Even after decades I still remember quite a few parts.The intro part, the entire warlock part with the Winlan/Windia soldiers and Nina, the female demon drama thingy, the dream world part with the annoying-ass dream demon, the fucking Gremlin's endless second wind, the getting turned tiny by mad scientist dude with cutscene and everything, and using the bottled song against Zog also hurt the fuck out of Ryu which I thought was a very nice detail at the time.
Oh and the random-ass Chun-Li cameo.
I missed Anfini the first playthrough but I was like "hahaha what the shit" once I did, specially the revised final boss.
My party was usually Ryu, Nina, Fused Karn (3-way fusion, the dragon-like thing) and I think Bleu. Never really liked using Bo, Ox, Mogu and Gobi, although I was amused by the shopping side thing. The fucking furries seem to have become more useful in later games, but here I don't remember liking them at all.
I was a fucking kid though, so maybe their strengths were lost on me while I favored the simplest strategies. Not that it was too difficult, though, you could muscle through and I recall MP recovery had no downsides like in 2 so you could spam dragon form and heavy spells with abandon.

70% of it is a mindless slog of grinding and filler sidequests.

2 is best, played it at as a kid. bought the first one a couple years ago, beat it. it's definitely not as good as 2 story-wise, but the music is pretty good.
