Post retro hardware gore.

Could you imagine destroying a rare VMU variant to turn it into a shitty gameboy emulator?

There is nothing rare about Dreamcast Sakura Wars stuff (except for console variant).
Before game series revival on PS4 everything was 100-200 yen at junk bin, both games and accessories

These new pi mods are undeniably cool but they kind of lack what made the VMU such a novel concept in the first place
>easy sharing of stuff data games ect. courtesy of the pokemon phenomenon
>interactive elements that enhance the console counterpart

Nintendo touches a little but on this with some pokemon titles and im sure there exists some android games that interact with larger games. I mean this does exist right? a mini game you can play on a handheld that adds to a larger console port? I would love to add progress to a game that way.

In general, its been done. For example, the smartphone app for Metal Gear Solid V had a minigame which gave you resources as a reward, which you could use in the main game to pay for things like unlocking new weapons.

My gamegear wouldn't turn on, learn that its caused by bad capacitors but ordering tantulams would take time and I want to play sonic now so I grab a bunch of cap of approximately the same value or higher and since they won't fit I need to add wires so I can move them in the case, after a couple of caps are replaced it turns on after warming up so I replace the rest.

I've been modding since I learned how to do a 50 / 60 hz mod on my master system, I broke a couple of consoles along the way so it would have been probably better if I left them alone.

Heres me ps1 modded to work with ps-io. I wanted to play with the gun using rgb so I added composite. It works.

I got a couple mod botched mods, remember I started modding when I was a teenager.

Compared to what? To the amount of dreamcasts in circulation? I guess there is a finite stock of them left but they are not a L@@K R@RE item by any stretch of the imagination. Of all the retro things i very much doubt they will retain any value aside from a vague curiosity.

Around the time XP was still the latest OS, I remember some website was selling custom build computers with the same concept, probably not that specific one though. I remember wanting one very badly because they looked super sleek and came loaded with XP (still had W98 at the time), but they were crazy expensive. Wish I could find the website in the internet archive or something, but thanks to every fucking retro hipster doing the same thing these days, "Custom NES PC" has become too broad of a search term.

But the Pi being a removable cartridge is what allows the ones in your pic to even exist in the first place. The Retroflag GPI was designed for use with a Pi Zero which does fit flush, and the cartridge design allows people to easily use other SBCs with it like the Pi CM3 used in your picture. Just wait for the inevitable higher specced SBC in a Pi Zero form factor if you want more power but still don't want the SBC cartridge to stick out at all.

There are various Raspberry Pi handhelds that don't require you to destroy original hardware. Even those based on Gameboy / Gameboy Pocket can be used with aftermarket shells.

To be fair, back then (like early 00s), mini ITX motherboards were still fairly new, so shoving them into everything was still an amusing concept, but yeah, these days I also think the novelty is long dead.

It's not because of the PSX having amazing audio but because the first japanese batch was made during a part shortage which sony remedied by putting expensive high-end DACs used in top of the line equipment.

>> No.6255718

Filter capacitors. Switching power supplies create noise so Sony would have put filter caps in various places to mitigate that. Audiophiles can't do any real engineering so they just fit GIANT filter caps instead.
There's a solid chance that those giant caps are actually attenuating the high frequencies and making the audio worse.
