How come like every Famicom game has gotten an English fan translation but there are barely any PS1 translations? There are a fuckton of RPGs we didn't get.

People ultimately translate what they want.

I guess the next question is why don't they want the same games as me

There's probably several reasons.

I'm learning to read Japanese but it would be pretty nice if someone would translate this game, it looks cool as fuck.

Is there a particular reason for this? I'm not knowledgeable in hacking games at all, so I'm just curious as to why this is. Would it be possible for someone to program a tool that would make it easier to hack CD games?

>> No.6235087

>>6235008
The simplest explanation is that it's a matter of complexity. NES games are simple enough that you can basically brute force them into doing what you want. Trying to hack a PSX game S O T H A T I T D O E S N ' T L O
O K L I K E T H I S . is another matter entirely. It usually involves creating a new font and reprogramming the text box printing system to allow more control over how many letters are shown plus adding new text boxes when lines are too long. And there are a lot of things that can break during this process.

And that's completely disregarding that CD games took advantage of their bigger storage space with a LOT more text than older games.

Still have to finish Scenario C. I keep trying to get burning poop when I cut open centipedes but it just isn't dropping One of the most interesting and enjoyable games I've ever played. Hopefully it gets a Western release before too long. Is Ore no Shikabane this good?

Just finished scenario C a few hours ago so pretty cool there's a thread up about it. Liked this game a lot, it has a lot of very cool ideas and finding the weird animals was really fun. Sucks that scenario D is just a time attack. Long story short go learn Japanese.

Anyone know the differences between the ps and the saturn one? I heard that they had to tone down the violence for the playstation version. I don't know if that means they cut stuff out of of the cut scenes or something.

>> No.6235650

>>6235612
I know the sound effects and music are a bit different between the two but I haven't played enough of the PS version to know if they actually cut any content. Kulata says they did, the fantranslators said they didn't.

>> No.6238126

>>6235650
>Kutala says
That hack reposts internet hearsay anyways.
Plus recent events proved he's willing to twist and misrepresent facts about games to push whatever conclusion he has in mind, so he's not credible in the least.

Going back to the probable source, japanese wikipedia, the PC-Engine version is uncut, the PS1 version cuts animal cruelty and some gore but not as much sexual content, and the Saturn version undoes much of the censorship and ports some skipped PC-Engine content, and ups image quality slightly. Then the PSN release of the PC-Engine version was tampered with (musical rights, or CERO/Sony's guidelines on sex and gore)

The current happenings don't bode too well for the translation of this game, or any "shocking" material in general.

>> No.6238304

>>6234975

PS1 translations are much harder to do. There are cases where the game itself has already been entirely translated but no one is willing to figure out how to actually insert the text (such as with Mizzurna Falls).

Seems like the PCE version is the way to go, just don't tell me it's full of voiceovers without subtitles like the Tengai Makyō games?

>> No.6238818

PC Engine version is the original version of the game. PS is a remake of that game and Saturn is a port of the PS remake. There are tons of differences between the PCE version and the remakes, including graphics, sound, and even character designs.
