How does local reputation work in this game? I defeat at least six bandiits every night in Prague (my starting area) and my local reputatioon has stayed between 68-72, sometimes going down for no reason. Is there anything else I am supposed to do? I also keep switching my party leader so not sure if this is a factor.

Also general Darklands thread I guess.

Also forgot to mention the only local nearby quest is in Kutna Hora/Kutenberg and it's about killing some Knockers in the mines or something, but i tired it and I was a bit too underpowered and didn't have enough tools with me to go through it.
I also killed a Raubritter but that was near Dresden i believe.

Sounds good. How can i play this?

it's on Steam and GOG so, you can try there, or just pirate it and use DOSbox I guess.

You probably ran off from the guards during night, thats why your rep was lowered.
I created a thread about it here half a year ago but stopped playing at a point where I travelled from town to town and killed raubritters around. I had a problem with finding healing potion formula.
Those were my guys at the start, I probably shouldn't have used that starting equipment trick, party went overpowered very quickly.

Nah, I didn't. I avoided them by sticking to the side-streets and only going on docks and the grove. I still don't get why my local reputation keeps changing. It's so weird.
>but stopped playing at a point where I travelled from town to town and killed raubritters around
How can I find Raubritters more easily? I found one by accident near Dresden, is there an easier way to find them other than walking into every castle I see?

Sometimes I still encounter guards even on this path. Strange, what do you do during the day then? Maybe you rest at that low-life quarter?
On the market merchants/bankers can give you a quest to kill raubritters that "terrorize" their town, you can get reward from multiple sources for one raubritter if you're lucky.

Also waking up merchants for making a purchase at night can lover your rep iirc.

Being rejected at the townhall will lower your reputation as will getting caught trying to sneak out of town. There's some other odds and ends I can't remember.

Quests are randomly generated, if you want to power game and make easy cash just keep reloading until someone hands you a Raubritter quest and then hit up all the other quest givers (Townhall, Hanse, Medici, etc) to get a contract for the same Raubritter, make sure it's the same guy though.

Kill said Raubritter and then reap the rewards.

>Sometimes I still encounter guards even on this path. Strange, what do you do during the day then?
I sell the equipment of the dead bandits then go to the Churches to learn formulas and either get rejected or accepted, or sometimes I just skip the day entirely
>Maybe you rest at that low-life quarter?
No, I rest at the grove.
>On the market merchants/bankers can give you a quest to kill raubritters that "terrorize" their town, you can get reward from multiple sources for one raubritter if you're lucky.
Aha, I always made the mistake of going to the political centre and asking there. I'll go the banks instead, got it.

I don't do that.

>>6220000
Hey, they attacked me first. And one of my characters has a Czech name, so it's not like they were random foreigners

>>6220741
>Being rejected at the townhall will lower your reputation
Oh shit, I think I did that before, that could also be why. Although I only did that once, but my reputation still kept acting strange even afterwards.

Got it, although I'll admit that I rarely see any quests other than the Knocker quest in the Town Hall, maybe I am not looking in the right place?

I fucking hate the fonts used in this game. I love fraktur writing, but it's very difficult to read in pixelated form. I have to take few steps away from the monitor to make any sense of the text even if playing in original resolution dosbox screen. Some of the later Ultima games had similar thing and it was just as bad.

You may want to leave Prague for a new location, I think area has at least a slight influence on what the game hands you. If you do decide to leave I recommend going to Nurnberg as they have the best overall quality for gear.

Also keep in mind universities charge a lot for services. I recall whatever the local services offer overlaps with what the university of that city offers as well. It can be a fast way to learn all of a town's saints though.

I will try to help with a couple of these

>I defeat at least six bandiits every night in Prague (my starting area) and my local reputatioon has stayed between 68-72, sometimes going down for no reason.
local rep can go up to 99 from just killing bandits but the chances of getting rep gets very low past the point you are at. You get guaranteed 10 or 15 local rep points (and 15 points of actual fame) for completing a quest.

>>6221058
>Aha, I always made the mistake of going to the political centre and asking there. I'll go the banks instead, got it.
Only go to the palace if you can invoke a saint to guarantee and audience. If you fail there your local rep does get hit. If you succeed in a quest given by the palace though, you get 30 to 50 florins.

>Got it, although I'll admit that I rarely see any quests other than the Knocker quest in the Town Hall, maybe I am not looking in the right place?
That sounds like the rumor for a mine, like if you ask for rumors in the main square or the inn. The mines are not the same kind of quest as the ones the palace or banks give. The mines are a huge dungeon crawl and have a lot of difficult skill checks, too.

>learn formulas
Make sure to go to the city's alchemist and trade for a random formula every couple of days. There is a bug going on and you can't buy most of the formulas. This is the only way to get em

I don't think there's ever any mention of her. There are a couple other unique locations, the devil's bridge near Nurnberg and the alpine cave near Salzburg
