What are some /vr/ English translated VNs you like? Also, please shut up about EOPs, I got a job and shit, no time to start learning Japanese.

There's a few that are near and to my heart, but the one I'm currently feeling nostalgic for is Nocturnal Illusion. It's one of those old gothic horror VNs that sticks to your brain long after you play it.

You can play it in English (along with several other old eroges) at this site here: https://tss.asenheim.org/nocturnal-illusion.html

The "Renewal" version is also worth playing if you like larger sprites, but the tradeoff is that it ditches the cool borders the original had.

In all honesty, alot of things i enjoy are able to become shit from people who: Join, bastardize, buy into, and become a majority, I dont know if this is nearly the case, but it sucks to see the things you love lose the light and great community you had, because it became bloated with people. At the same time, i dont have time to learn japanese.

>> No.6212410

>>6212379
>i dont have time to learn japanese.
Of course you have. You waste a lot of time doing less productive things.
Most of the time it takes learning a language is actually spent reading things in that language. Just invest the initial 30 minutes or so a day to cover the basics before that.

>> No.6212426

>>6212379

When it comes to media consumption, the fanbase growing in a big way leads to the content creators expending less effort and pandering to the lowest common denominator, countless examples of this across different mediums, yes.

However, normies are never getting into VNs, period, and its not like they're not already trite and sophomoric, albeit aesthetically pleasing. You gotta really have nothing else in life to take pride in for it to be upsetting to think that the handful of people interested would get to enjoy dating sims without "earning it" ie learning an entire language to do so, because thats how you "had" to do it. Just next level pathetic.

>> No.6212439

Its much less about earning it, atleast for me, and more of the change in not only community and material put out, I wont claim that VN's are something that will be consumed by normies. I guess ive stepped outside the bounds of the thread and am speaking from other experiences, but as it is, other things that have blown up just feel like they dont have what made it special to me, not in all cases mind you, but I worry it's all just rose tinted glasses.

It's very heavy on the stat-raising, and does not have much text to go through. I suppose it's all right though if you're into something like that.

>Bloody Bride: Imodaki no Vampire for Playstation has a solid fan translation.

Its author did not know Japanese and just used a translation program to do it, and cleaned up its results. (He said that straight out on the project's web page.)

Also, it's imadoki.

Well, to be accurate:
> I'm sort of teaching myself Japanese, and when I stumbled on the uncompressed text files on the game CD, I decided to see what a couple dictionaries, a translator program, and my very rudimentary knowledge would take me. What follows is the result.

The characters are still surprisingly different from their originals.

I'm watching Saint Tail and... well, Seira is a nun-to-be and Meimi is excellent at gymnastics... and they do somewhat look the same, but that's as far as the similarities seem to go.

I like the game too, but when I think about it, I may not have given it the same attention if not for the game being based on an already known franchise. I mean, I don't like Evangelion, but I do like Ayanami, Asuka, Misato, Hikari, Maya, and of course after that game, Mana reigning supreme.

Iron Maiden is very simple and only offers 3 possible endings, and the actual player interaction is minimal (although I enjoyed getting lost inside Nerv HQ or the streets of Tokyo-3), but it's so well-crafted that yes, it deserves a new playthrough every now and then.

Are you able to play this game without any problems? I can't get past the opening sequence because anytime I pick "look" or "think" the game just stops loading in text and I'm stuck.
For some reason this isn't a problem with the renewal, but like that other anon said, the original sprites and backgrounds are much more preferable.

It's good to play as an introduction to the dating sim genre, and it was amazing for its time. Shiori is also known as being legendarily difficult to win over. But for me personally, while I can appreciate it, I just don't find it fun to play because of the characters. They are way too bland and don't have enough dialogue (there are actually very few events in this game compared to newer dating sims). I hear this is remedied in some of the supplementary games (some of them are written by Kojimbo (!)) which fleshes out the characters more.

I say you should give it a try. It's a unique experience for sure.

>>6211827

You do have the time. People still find time to learn while going to school and working full time. Just say you're not interested in learning and you'd come off as way less disingenuous.
