I can fix the bullets by lowering their radius and height.
The rockets aren't a bug, it's just like that due to the way the ammo is balanced- triad rockets are only a little bit more than a third better than a standard rocket, and the altfire rocket does three times normal damage and homes in, though the splash damage is reduced. (Due to shaped charges or something like that.)

the second and twelfth posts in that thread irk me, for the second how do you properly set up a cyberdemon/spider fight?

in the open with no cover? i dont get it

the twelfth does not like arena battles, i think they can be done well and as for hating monsters that teleport in - come the fuck on, you fell into a trap, we all do that and heaps of maps in vanilla doom games had monsters appearing via traps that you'd never expect to be there the first time around

I toyed with that, but the way the Raise states work is that you can't quite do it like that.

The workaround I threw in for ProjectILE were that the archviles conjure vilesparks- small semi-aware wisps of hellfire that chase you down, but if they hit a body, they revive it and fade away.

Okay, another bug:
Encountered spectres, and noticed their teleporting habit(Or are they going somewhere with noclip towards items?) and they keep getting stuck on things when they teleport back into shootspace. Definitely, yes, send in bug reports.
I'll have to figure out how to do their phasing better.

As it is, they phase into spectrespace, and follow you around. In Zdoom, they wait until you're not looking to return, and in zandronum, they wait until they're around a corner from you. Then they phase back into shootspace then.

I need to figure out how to get that working... Maybe make them blocked by physical objects even when they're phased? Oh well, I'll add it to the to-do list.

Suggestion: whenever the spectre does a 'I want to return, is it good? check, add a 'Is there something here within my personal space?' check as well... if that's possible.

I don't think I could do one of those checks without delving into ACS, and I really don't want to do that. It'd be easier just to use the 'can't move past physical objects' flag. Yeah, they can't climb through monsters to get to you, but it's better than the alternative.

And I know what causes that. Projectiles leave behind bulletpuffs, and I forgot to have the puffs removed. They don't look right regardless. To the to-do list!

Have their reappearing state run a script that uses spawn() to attempt to spawn an actor on top of the demon, make sure its height and radius are the same as the demon, and it has +SOLID. If it would clip into another actor, it will not spawn. Use an if statement to check for this:
>if (spawn(dummy, demonx, demony, demonz,))=1
>{reappearance code}
>else {setstate on demon to keep running)

make another state that runs A_chase for a really short period when this happens and then runs the script again. Be sure to destroy the dummy immediately when youve gotten your use from it.

Trust me, it's way too complicated, mostly because the sprites were coded and compressed in such a way it's almost impossible to extract them directly like most of the mobile phone games were you can open up the .jar file and see them in pure .png format

Pic so related, I'm actually working on Kronos and I had to use an emulator and the in-game filter to get the front-sized sprites of him.

>>624701

There's actually a Doom RPG mod somewhere in the ModDB website, the downside: it's an edited IWAD and the levels are based straight on the minimaps, so they have little to no detail.

What I'm actually picturing for a Doom RPG themed WAD is that the entire mapset should be designed the way Legacy of Suffering did for their levels. And fuck, Kronos deserves a better bossfight than the one it had in the mobile game; you can actually insta-kill him if you use a Berserksphere and blast him with a rocket or a BFG outside the corridor

Yep, NM is not to be taken seriously, it's basically Unfair Mode. Just run as fast as you can and keep killing monsters as well, but don't even attempt to get 100% kills or secrets, just get to the exit

Didn't even read most of it; you're setting yourself up for pain.

Other than that, strafe, hit the high-risk monsters like chaingunners and shotgunners only, weave around the others like it was a bullet hell game.
Steal every speedrunning trick in the game, ignore the secrets, run run run like a bastard.

In short... Godspeed, marine.

Honestly, Nightmare can be taken seriously, but not in a Doom-ish way. Your goal in nightmare is not to rip and tear, the demons, but to tear ass through the map and get to the exit before you lose too much HP or ammo.

Nightmare is really more test of your map knowledge than of your combat skills (although that is a factor).

He asked me what "timing out" meant, and when I answered him, he asked why I'm "posting boring tl;dr all the time". Then when I pointed out he asked (after he denied it) he shut up. He disabled his messages and every so often said "I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU ORANGE LALALALALA". The funniest part was every time he said that we weren't even talking about him.

So I decided to head to http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?random and see what I get.
I got http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=3926 so lets see the damage done.

Well, I just opened up the archive and here's the contents:
DEUSF.EXE
DTEXMAN5.TXT
LEGALDM.BAT
LEGALDM2.BAT
LEGALIZ1.WAD
LEGALIZE.DOC
SCHAFFER.EXE

dis gon b. gud.

Apparently they were too arsed to make a TXT file and decided to put the info into a DOC
Episode and Level # : DOOM all levels(no new maps), best effects
Episode and Level # : DOOM2 all levels (no new maps), still cool
Single Player : Yes
Cooperative 2-4 Player : Yes
Deathmatch 2-4 Player : Yes
Difficulty Settings : Yes
New Sounds : Yes
New Graphics : Yes
So either it's a modified iwad, or it's a gameplay mod. Let's go take a look.

http://i.imgur.com/fJJxFEW.png

Right off the bat, the mod wants us to know it's not fucking around. Drug wars are srs bsns.

http://i.imgur.com/BZpuoHq.png

Starting up a level, you're treated to... this... Yeah, he just plastered random shit all over the textures... it's not much.

http://i.imgur.com/bFMoAsj.png

I don't know much about stoner culture, so forgive my ignorance if it occurs. 90 percent of sounds seem to have been replaced with random ramblings from some weed film or something. The voices sound black but eh, what do I know. The doors make incoherent comments, the shotguys make incoherent comments, YOU make incoherent comments when you drop from a height or push a wall or get hit. It's really weird. The pickup noise is the most unbearable sound imaginable. It's probably supposed to be something weed related, but it sounds like a shaking spray can.

http://i.imgur.com/8GSpG5j.png

There's really not much saving this mod. It's very simple. Hell, it seems to be made in the vanilla days.
Skip it.

I'll do another one with an ACTUAL MAP next time.

Worst mod should probably be renamed "most infamous mod" to better reflect what it really is - the mod most famous for being shitty quality for (x) reason. In Aons of Death's case, it's such an aimless mish-mash of shit from various games that it's hard to make anything of it. It's kinda like the reviewer said - download this (comparatively) massive file, iddqd & idkfa, run around for five minutes looking at all the stuff, then you're done. It's pointless.

Because it was a huge trainwreck / 100 car pileup of mismatched styles of everything from guns to items to monsters.

PERSONALLY, I never minded it - if it gets people playing and liking DOOM I can dig it, I even tried it myself but it was too overwhelming for me. The maker even later included a means to limit the style of monsters and shit that appear but I think that was after the award came out.

Its a first person shooter apparently released by Mr. Pibb soda company as a sort of advertisement, similar to Chex Quest. Apparently, you burp on people, and turn people into children when you do it. Downloads are scarce, by I feel like I know the guy to email for a copy.

First glance, seeing as its popularity was low, it was either inaccessible, or was just not good. Either way, I am adding it.

>>626998
It indicates a sequel to the game that will be included in the megapack. It isn't entirely accurate, as I am unsure if some in the list have sequels, and I am only adding one Elder Scrolls game (Arena) so that plus is redundant.

Also, I haven't done much in the past 3 hours, but slack off. I just changed some text around, moving the 3 games in the 'Infamous Games' section into the already created grouping system. Mostly because it did not fit the organization theme.

Well for the "Import from Archive File" option in D-Fend it just takes the archive, makes a folder based on it's name and places it in your VirtualHD folder. However it won't work with RAR files, so I re-archived it as ZIP and re-uploaded that to save some people a step.

Also from looking at the game's data file, it was made using an old version of 3D Game Studio. If they were to ever include this character in Samsara, he already has his own taunt "OHHHH YEAAAHHHHHHH" in a high pitched tone.

I also have Redneck Rampage on CD and from GOG if you have troubles finding any good copies of it.

I like linearity, as long as there are plenty of optional sidepaths to explore, and maybe some mild backtracking. 90's shooters mostly did employ these, Doom included.

My main issue with SP shooters nowadays is that they put too much focus on set pieces and scripting, that they tend not to employ sidepaths as a result of it. Maybe the occasional room on the side, but rarely any large scale sidepath.

Same here. F.E.A.R comes to mind on this and I loved it.

I just get annoyed by people being like "NOPE MUST BE TOTALLY NON LINEAR" as if that automatically means good, it *can* be good but it's not *exclusive* to good.

And the alternative is not just a straight line.

There was one poster on the zdoom forums who was saying he thinks a map sucks balls if it does not also play well as a deathmatch level, and I just thought "really?.....fucking honestly?". So he unknowingly deprives himself of a potentially good experience just because a level is not optimized to also play as a deathmatch map.

That's the bottom line of what I dont like really, people passing off their personal opinions of what a doom map should be as objective guidlines of quality instead of subjective tastes, which is what it all is in mapping as mapping is closer to being an art than a science. As pretentious as that is to say.

For overall design, I'd say close quarters, with a little wiggle room so players can see the dynamic between his more offensive close-range attacks (The grenades) and defensive longer-range style (blocks more & uses shield attack). The bouncy grenades might also make him good for areas with lots of corners for maximum mayhem, and putting him in areas above the player could heighten that.

If you mean environment as in visual setting, uh, I'd just toss him wherever someone would put in any mechanized monster. Tech bases would be the obvious choice.

So, for those of you who play doom with enhancement mods that don't mess with the gameplay, what do you use?

pic related
I use the lights and enemy brightmaps packaged with GZDoom.
D1-pcmus.wad, which was on a doom page linked to in one of the older threads, and is the Doom OST CD replacing built in doom music, resulting in higher quality original background music.
pk-doom-sfx-20100109.wad, from the doomsday source port site, which is higher quality versions of the original sound effects (and probably overridden by the sfx changes in DEFinal.pk3)
DEFinal.pk3 is a collection of enhancements that don't effect gameplay, like brightmaps for assorted wall textures, smoother weapon animations, ejected cartridges from weapons, among a bunch of other shit. The mod also shifts around some base game sound effects, so enemies have a more consistent and unique sound. I like the sound effect changes, but there's a version without that available too.
doom-freelanzerhddoom-blahblahblahetc.wad is a custom version I modified of the doomsday source port forum's HD texture project, which is the best quality and most faithful to original HD texture pack I've found. The pack is incomplete, has no brightmaps, and fucks up the nice brightmaps in DEFinal.wad, so I deleted any HD textures from it that had corresponding brightmaps in DEFinal.wad. Most of the HD textures look decent even next to the low res originals.

Observations:
-Bug with the undershoot error seems fixed; I tried the same spot as the pic, and it seems to work now.
-No more bullet trails on the map! Yay!
-Demons are a bit tougher than Spectres; not bad, but makes e1m8 a bit difficult on pistol start (cue sad violin music)

Amusing anecdote:
>testing e3m8
>con Spiderbrain into fighting Baron, have RL
>shoot trirocket at her; bounces, no issue dodging
>shoot homing rocket at her
>homing rocket bounces, targets me
>confirmed targeting when running from rocket
>WTFdied

Yeah, that's a side-effect of her shield- it has a demonic influence on IFF homing circuits, causing it to target doomguy. Obviously. This isn't because the reflection flag automatically changes ownership of the missile, no, not at all.

Demons have been stronger than spectres since I modified them, but I lowered their charge and slammed up their speed a *lot*. Now they're pretty dangerous.

It should help that the pistol is a lot tougher, now.
