I like FFIV the best, but V or VI are probably technically the best. III and I are runners-up. II and Mystic Quest are good, too, but you might not like either of those.

Honestly the best one hands down is Final Fantasy I. I wish it had a proper randomizer though, i would play the shit out of final fantasy I if the randomizer for it were actually good.

For me it's V because it takes the Job mechanic of the original game and really runs with it, as well as Crystals and other classic elements. It feels like the pure distilled apotheosis of Final Fantasyness.

Well, my next favorite is Final Fantasy 2 US (JP 4 easy type). I do like Tactics more. The original 1 on NES was alright, I remember it gave SMB3 a run for its money months on end on the top 30.

I prefer the original. "Blame yourself or God" was a better, more memorable line. I do miss out never knowing that Mustadio had a thing for Agrias. Like Chrono Trigger, I feel the animated cutscenes don't add to the experience since it replicates what was done in-engine.
