How does it manage to still hold up?

The gameplay is still superior to every other wrestling game. Pretty simple.

Yes but they made 90% of the 2k series, or at least it feels like it.

I mean it has the same tried and true game engine of AKI's Virtual Pro Wrestling

They used this engine for countless great wrestling games

starting with WCW

>1997
>WCW vs. nWO: World Tour

>1998
>WCW/nWo Revenge

they moved on to WWF

>1999
>WWF Wrestlemania 2000

>2000
>WWF No Mercy

When WCW went under, and WWF wouldn't hire them anymore...

>2003
>Def Jam Vendetta

>2004
>Def Jam: Fight for New York

after that they became Syn SOPHIA, INC. and went on to develop girl fashion games on DS & 3DS

>> No.6208564

>>6208563
all aki did was legit just resking Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 with WCW or WWF characters of that current year roster

each game more refined than the last

also Def Jam:FFNY is the GOAT

>>6208564
I always felt the Legends Of Wrestling series had a very aki engine feel to it.
I stopped playing wrestling game when they added stamina.

>> No.6208582

Wrestlemania felt superior imo, but I might be jaded because we played it during multiple birthday parties having a blast with bros. Customizing characters for hours.

you have to be a special kind of retard to even find wrestling enjoyable today

Wrestlemania had a top notch CAW feature no doubt about it, I had the same hours and hours with my friends making characters. Smackdown 2 for that matter also had a great CAW, but in ring gameplay No Mercy still runs laps around them.

One underrated aspect of No Mercy CAW was that you could actually edit how the real wrestlers looked, for example I had Kane unmasked in one of his outfits. As far as I remember the others didn't allow that sort of customization for real wrestlers.

Man, I remember using the internet to look up CAW sheets for new and famous wrestlers that weren't in the game on Angelfire and Geocities... First with Wrestlemania 2000 and later with No Mercy. I remember finding out about how you could use a Gameshark to make Wrath, a last minute addition to the roster that wasn't implemented, playable in WCW/NWO Revenge on one of these sited and then going to the next room and trying it with my Gameshark. Wrestling was so hot back then, everyone was wearing DX and Austin 3:16 shirts at school and everyone was watching RAW on Monday nights. Lots of great memories with the AKI games

I think there are other developers, didn't Fire Pro Wrestling World come out a few years ago while being made by a japanese developer?

Unless games based on japanese promotions don't count that is.

I don’t much like the early SmackDown games either, but to call them slow is retarded. They were franticly paced games.

A very good engine with great animations with 4-player fun. The CAW has a great balance with enough customizable options and imagination. There hasn't been too many since.

>>6208563
They also did Kinnikuman games with the same engine.

Man, i wish they would do more Kinnikuman games, Nisei/Ultimate Muscle's manga was still ongoing when the last game was released if i recall correctly.

And since 2011, the original series came back...maybe bridging the gap between the two series, whatever there are still many wrestlers and moves that didn't appear in those games.

Just saying, the Perfect Origin, The Man and the Omega Centaurians haven't been in any game...mostly because they were created after 2011, and even worse is the fact that SATAN finally revealed his wrestler form, his own finishing move and is finally fighting for the first time in the franchise, too bad the author only decided to do this in 2020.

Come on, someone make a new Kinnikuman game, i want to play as masked wrestler Satan!

No Mercy mods are pretty fun to expand the game to fit many promotions and current promotions and roster. Hopefully the AEW mod can get done to hold us over if kenny can get ahold of the current AKI
