6198158 No.6198158 [Reply] [Original]

Playing the first Deus Ex game of the year edition for the first time on realistic, non lethal only. I'm enjoying it so far, finding little difficulties other than some commandos that are just pissing me off! I don't like save scumming but these guys make no sense at all.. some people say prod to the head while others say between the buttocks/lower back.. some of them die instantly while others just seem to be random with multi load attempts and I just don't get it? I've also tried the blackjack to the head and higher back with no luck.. I do use the max strength augmentation with fully trained low tech weapons so what is up? Anybody have some advice? I have multiple saves to see if something can work on all them consistently because I can see this game being fun to speed run when you get these guys down..

they have to be unaware to get the full stun, and the stun location for every enemy is the line of bilateral symmetry directly behind them (their spinal cord)

in the case of the stun baton, your melee weapon skill makes a difference but your augs do not, if you have max skill and hit the spine while they are unaware it will always work.

in terms of the non-lethal playthrough as a whole, the bigger manballs thing is to sneak through unknown and unobserved rather than knock everyone out

Red Alert 2 and AoE2 are part of the same era of games as TibSun and Starcraft. I've been here for 2+ years (other boards since 2006 at the earliest, 2010 consistently). Reddit is gay, and so are your inconsistent rules. Pre-2000s Systems (including PC OSs and arcade boards) are the cutoff, never by a game-by-game basis, and those are the posted rules in the sticky. As another anon in this thread said, people talk about Diablo II (a Windows 95/98/SE game released post-2000) all the time here, and that's considered perfectly fine and retro, just like Deus Ex and others logically are, as well.

>>6201843
I think backports don't count. For example, Halo was released on a non-retro console before this PC release, so it doesn't count as retro, even though it plays on a retro OS (or, at least, any OTHER version of Halo besides this one ONLY is non-retro, meaning backports, alone, are /vr/ retro). Same thing for Cave Story which was originally released on XP but ported later to Dreamcast and Genesis.

>>6201928

He me too, bought this game on steam years ago and finally decided to give it a go.
I'm at the Airforce Base now, really liking it.

Started the early missions by not killing anyone, but after I realized that it doesn't matter(?) I started killing people, silenced pistol to the face, 2-3 quick shots, or a silenced sniper.
Those commandos I think they take one sniper shot to the face and they are down, (with augmented rifles).

Try stealth, (crouching, not walking), also try to find alternative routes?

Crouch up to ones back, AND LITERALLY TOUCH THEM, until you can't walk anymore,

why does the game need to validate your choices though? halfway through the game JC has already gone rogue and answers to no one

You yourself can have your own feelings about whether shooting a turbo narc probably serial killer for hire is less amoral than shooting terrorists trying to steal medicine for their families, but nobody actually has the power to bring consequence onto JC, but then

what is the point of only making moral decisions based on what consequences you face? you might as well just bitch out and be one of those cucks who lets muslims or freemasons fuck his wife for financial security, for all the good it does you in this world to judge morality by your own cost and benefit

The point is how our decisions transform the world around us. When you kill someone the impact is that person being dead and gone. You've made the world into a place where they don't exist and probably where their absence will be noticed. That consequence exists narratively, hypothetically, there may be people who are aware of JC's actions and cost him something unseen or unspoken within the scope of the game but figuratively inevitable if the story were to continue.

Might as well just imagine yourself a whole game then. A role playing game's world is supposed to adapt to what you do or at least give you the illusion that it is. That's the entire point of them.

I don't think we should change the "pre-2000s" standard, but I do think we should make the rules more consistent by either 1. changing them to only allow console games from before 2000 or 2. changing the last three categories to be based on pre-2000s platforms (including OSs and arcade boards from before 2000) rather than on individual game releases, as is currently the case for console games.

I only want to talk about retro games here. Stop projecting.
>3. only word omitted was "and" which you can look up in the same screenshot, or the actual fucking sticky
Stop lying, you pathetic idiot. The pic split the last unit of speech (ie, "any forms of video games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier") into two (ie, "any forms of video games on platforms" & "launched in 1999 and earlier") as a deceptive and desperate means to "prove" his claims.
>4. "platforms" only applies to the last point ("other") otherwise it would grammatically make no sense for the other points
You are retarded. The word "platforms" is not used until the end of the sentence, so it can ONLY apply to everything before it (unless you, by your "reasoning", believe that only "consoles", themselves, not the games on the consoles, are retro), as in "Retro gaming is [any game] on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier. Hence the three fucking commas.

Hence judging the OSs as I already stated, you illiterate moron, and yes you can, by the year an OS was released. Same thing with arcade boards. This isn't rocket science.
>6. a Deus Ex thread can easily sustain itself on /v/, post one there (one posted a day ago had 250 replies)

See for yourself. Deus Ex threads would get deleted all the time in the past, proving mods don't think it belongs on this board, and that your argument is invalid.

So you're willing to destroy thie entire board because you can't read. Hope you're ready for the all the zoomer shitposting of "NOT RETRO. Only consoles, NOT console games, are retro. Look, it says so in my memepic of the sticky!"

The amount of this sort of shitposting (which is already getting very common) caused your illiterate inconsistency will lead to the mods fulfill the shitters' dream of "every 20 years, a new gen becomes retro", eventually making nothing retro, and this board permanently being a second /v/. Good job, idiots.

Stop posting Final Fantasy 9 threads.
Only 1-8 are considered retro.

I've been playing games for longer than most of posters here, including most of the retro games when they came out, including Deus Ex. I assure you, by the standards of when this board started early 2000 games are fucking retro, you're just gatekeeping, because you don't have hair on your peepee yet.

They get deleted because people turn video game thread into off topic shitposting, just like you're doing right now. Just read those archived threads through and see for yourself how there's barely any discussion about the game itself.
