6195656 No.6195656 [Reply] [Original]

I picked one of these up for 5$ to play snes and genesis games on the go and after about 2 minutes of playing my hands were hurting.

The dpad is awkward too. I loaded up Street Fighter and could hardly do anything.

I thought these were the best thing out there for portable retro emulation? Even the PSP games are akward to play and make me want to use a controller and PPSSPP instead.

Must be a psp 1000. I remember the dpad on mine was shit too and I eventually modded it by inserting a dpad shaped plastic cut out of a pringles can lid just underneath it. Made a world of difference, the pad was so snappy.

The unfortunate truth. It was a passable emulation device when it released considering it was pretty much the only device on the market that could handle 16 bit systems. Watching new homebrew being developed back then was always exiting but since then its been fully outpaced by virtually everything else.

Years ago I bought up a bunch of broken ones off ebay and was able to fix about 4 of them up. Its convenient to bring them along for some casual SFA3MAX or homebrew gaming with my friends but that is about the extent of their usefulness. My phone and a collapsible BT controller work remarkably well for all my other portable gaming needs.

I had a Dingoo back then, and it was great. i also had j2me nes and gb emulators on almost ever phone I had after 2006. GB Micro was amazing when paired with one of the many flash carts available, and ran GB, GBC, NES and GBA...additionally there were a lot of palmtops from the mid-late 90s going for dirt cheap at the time. It was around this time that netbooks also came on the scene (7") for around $99 new, and could run loads of emulators since it was just linux on ARM. later the same year, x86 based atoms came on the scene running win xp, and would play everything.

The nice thing about the PSP 1000, at least back in the day, was that it was pretty easy to jailbreak. I had mine modded at a local Chinese mall to play games off the memory stick. I owned a grand total of 3 UMDs: Dynasty Warriors, Ridge Racer, and the Spider-Man 2 movie that came bundled with the console. Everything else was on memory stick.
