6196485 No.6196485 [Reply] [Original]

Reminder that SoTN with the hardtype hack is the best game ever made; fixes the only glaring flaw of the game which is the lack of difficulty (and makes it a bit TOO hard in my opinion, but nothing impossible). Go play it right now: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2896/

>>6196519
It's already good, the hack just fixes a small issue. You can see that this is something the devs accepted as criticism and tried to fix it in the other Metroidvania titles since they aren't as easy as SoTN.

The bossfights with the patch are much harder than any boss in classicvania games. Easily as hard or even harder than Dark Souls bosses, so if you like it you'll like this too. SoTN's bosses have well designed attack patterns and stuff, but deal too little damage and have too little hp in the original game.

>> No.6196804

>>6196485
I think the game being pretty easy is one of it's positive elements. Alucard as a character is already more superhuman than a Belmont (who isn't Julius), and he has centuries to piss around mastering sorcery and swordsmanship so its hardly unusual that the game is more about all the cool shit you can do to dunk on it and crack it open for all the superfluous toys Alucard can mess around with.

Game is basically Alucard just collecting his inheritance and beating the shit out of his crippled father.

I remember how broken magic is with most bosses dying in just three fire balls or the mass soul spell when they were big enough.
That's why I still enjoy a "luck mode naked" as you called it, gonna play it this weekend hoping for the best

There's a reason I don't put much time into playing fighting games against the AI or beat 'em ups; they're not that interesting. Castlevania and Mega Man were ruined when they stopped being platformers. It's why games like SotN (though visually and aurally excellent) and Mega Man X4 are kind of snoozers to actually play

I doubt "classicucks" would bother to patch castleroids of all things. This is for people who loved SotN back in the days but grew out of its childish challenge curve. When I played it as an 11 year old, the difficulty was actually just right. Now, after numerous challenging games like the entirety of the series, all Makaimura games, numerous shmups, the entire Souls series etc., SotN just doesn't stimulte at all.

CotM and OoE were harder, but HoD, AoS, DoS and PoR were just as pathetically easy as SotN. If you wanted a challenge, you had to download a save file, start on Hard, sell equipment, waste the money, and then you had some semblance of challenge and were able to finally see that enemies had actual attack patterns and there actually was some level design and everything.

CotM was harder because you had to grind for everything and there was no store to stock up on spammable healing items. OoE had a similar thing, but the real thing to make it "harder" was bloating enemy damage to absurd levels.

No. Only HoD is comparable to SoTN out of all those. AoS, DoS and PoR all have challenging sections and bosses. PoR specially has the hardest boss in the series. Took me quite a few attempts to beat Dracula and Death.

Power trips feel good because you feel powerful, but if you are ALWAYS powerful (no challenge) then you don't really feel strong because your enemies could just be weak, but if first you have to overcome a challenge and then you can easily beat the once challenging enemies (reward) then you know you got strong.
