Hi everyone I travel a lot for work so I want to get a portable emulation machine and I've been thinking about a Raspberry Pi 4, but are there any N64/PS1/Saturn/Dreamcast games that don't run at full speed? Also open to portable PC suggestions if they're as cheap and portable and have both HDMI and analog video output. I found this video that shows some Dreamcast performance but I don't know if the video is faked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuqQQfA371A

Pis are shit for emulation. If you're travelling, consider something portable like a PSP, PS Vita, N3DS/N2DS or an android phone.

Redream is supposed to work on the Pi, but it's closed source you have to pay $5.

PS1 is fine, N64 most stuff runs - not all at full speed though. Saturn probably doesn't even run at full speed on a LattePanda Alpha, trying to emulate it on the Pi would be a joke.

Vita is trash, I regret falling for that meme. It can't even do SNES. In fact both SNES emulators are absent in the latest retroarch vita nighties because the devs are cleaning all the trash emulators that don't work on the system in preparation for the next stable release.
Maybe that means they'll add a working one in the future but right now you need to run an old build of a shit emulator using frameskip and then overclock your vita hard just to get a stable framerate lmao

Despite it's popularity for emulation, Raspberry Pis aren't that good for it, since they were designed as hobbyist minimalist computing devices for DIY hardware implementation projects (fancier on-board computing for your car, homebrew security system, robotics, etc).

You'd be better off with a proper device like a laptop/netbook, or even better, a hacked handheld console (3DS/PSP) if you can get your hands on one/set it up.

There's no information at all except "Pi4"

This is obviously a troll video, probably gimped performance on purpose.
You can find Rogue Squadron videos playing on a Pi 3 with better performance than that.

>Does ps1 stuff emulate better than n64 in general? Why?

I'd imagine it's because most emulators are open source and rely on people writing code and fixing bugs. So it's basically just a popularity contest, more people are willing to work on ps1.

In terms of hardware I honestly have no idea which is the most complex or powerful. The n64 was probably the more difficult to reverse engineer because it was around for less time documentation would be harder to piece together - so there are probably more instances were they don't know exactly how something works and are just guessing - so there's more hacked together code in there to get it working.
