I used to start the game in debug mode just for skipping the barrel. Before that I had successfully glitched past the barrel a couple of times only to get time overs or having my mom tell me to turn off the game because we were going somewhere or something. My Sonic 3 cartridge was one of those with defective SRAM too, so I never understood why there was a file select at the start of the game.

First time I played this was in the 2000's
I got to this but thought you had to jump and use momentum to get past but couldn't so I gave up.
Another time doing the same thing I accidently pressed up or down. In no other level in any of the games are expected to do anything like this, its easy to miss but its easy to discover if you play it enough but most people would miss it the first time.
