People don't like slaughtermaps because they're all the same and get super boring after a while. Comparing Doom's slaughter maps and how the monsters and weapons interact to SS is retarded. A few BFG shots or some rockets lets you kill dozens of weaker monsters and infighting clears enemies even quicker. The same size fight replicated in SS would be a 15 minute slog where as it could be finished in a fraction of the time in Doom.

I don't really like slaughtermaps but saying they're boring is just plain wrong, and at the least having a shitload of guys in one or two rooms is a good way to spice up a level.

I think the anger over BuildGDX was moreso that it was Java.
There's sort of a mega hateboner for Java in a lot of dev communities, and honestly, it's not entirely unwarranted.
But it's a good port, so I don't think it deserves it at all.
I am looking forwards to seeing something that's more inherently optimized though.
My biggest problem with GDX is how poorly the original Software renderer runs, given that it has the best atmosphere imo. (That, and the lack of palette emulation.)
Luckily with all these projects springing up, like Raze, among some others, there's a good chance we could finally have a "definitive" port of Blood within the next few years, which is an exciting prospect.

>How did this nonsense get so popular?
modern shooters focus more on being in the action and as such things that take you out of the action are toned down. everyone wants to be the star of their own action movie but nobody wants to wander around looking for keys, switches, etc.

my question is why is shooting in a first person shooter such a huge problem for you? are you bad at them or is it something more than that?

We finally have the technology for tons of hair but the entire thing has to be super hairy.

Running under VirtualMidiSynth.
I actually thought it was the software being fucky at first, so I changed it to Timidity, which I still had from an old installation, and then even the Microsoft standard Midi, and all of them have really equally bizarre audio levels for songs.
It's especially noticeable on Map08 and 11 of TNT, especially 11 where the solo guitar feels like it's drilling into my left ear.

I feel as though Doom Eternal shouldn't have started by just dropping you in a quiet room with two hapless possessed.

The entire game has this philosophy of not wasting your time and never straying far from the action, so I feel as though they should've taken a cue pacing-wise from the trailer and dumped you IMMEDIATELY into an arena fight from the start, like how DMC3 opens. Just a minor nitpick.

Heya. My Oculus Rift S arrived today and I wnated to play some VR Quake and Doom using Fishbiter's ports that were shown here a while ago.
The problem is - I can't get them to work.
GZDoom launches and gets to the menu, I can change texture options and other options, but after chosing episode and difficulty, the game just doesen't start. After chosing the difficulty, menu disappears and nothing loads. I can call up menu again, and attempt to chose episode/difficulty but it does not progress further than htat.

Quakespasm port does not work at all - all I get is a black screen that always stays on top of everything else and prevents interacting with anything - I cant even close it - the only way to turn it off was to reset PC completely, which I did 10 minutes ago.

Other VR games run just fine.

Please send help

trying to find the name of a map pack for doom 2....

one of the maps is a UAC base layout and you start in a n open room, if you move one direction you come to a room with a rocket shooting down into the ground and chain gunners behind it. I remember a lot of glass and there's a section with some huge stairs going up and two hellknights that spawn on either side of the stairs.

I THINK it was a map pack involving a bunch of different mappers doing their own style in episodes.

Heaven feels like something that should have been in previous Doom games to make more sense in the new games
>Classic
Something that mirrors/parallels most of classic Hell, so between the obvious and blatant JudeoChristian cliches and elements, there's some weird textures/props that sometimes look like some from Hell but different, with its own theme and color palette
A possible mix of tech and fantasy shit even, that robot angels could have existed along with a variety of other creatues, be it knights, centaurs, lions, angels or even Kahn Maykr and mecha/cyber Jesus
There's also cross keys as a follow up to skull/card keys
>64
A more simpler Heaven with its own atmosphere and props to mirror the gothic, non fleshytech approach for Hell
There could be their version of the Unmaker
>3
To make the setting scarer, it'd turn out that even Heaven was invaded by Hell and you can see their fancy temples and gardens ruined by Hell's presence
There's a cutscene of some angel begging for help before he gets crushed by a Hellknight and Cherubs from D3 are established to be corrupted versions of literal Cherubs
I guess the Maykr thing makes them opposite to the unadvanced/cavemen Hell and that there's other evil factions

To make windows you just make a sector between two others and drag the ceiling down, and the floor up. Duh.

Here's how to make an action execute when the player walks over a linedef. In this case, you're looking either for a walkable action (W) that will open a door (Door Stay). So something like W1 Door Open Stay should work. Use the (fast) variation if that fits better. There's more you can tell just by reading.

The third one was so much fucking cringe I couldnt bear to watch it to the end.

All the trailers say it's "just like the original" and it "teleports enemies in"

I'm forever for DECORATE. Plus I wouldn't use true rippers. I'd make the projectiles pass through monsters and constantly spawn actors that deal the real damage, GMOTA's shatterbombs fragments do the same thing.

You are a blessed man.
I took the liberty of taking a copy of this image with me. It may bring me some good moments.
Thank you for creating such great art.

It fits very much with this:

Please forgive me if the city in your image isn't Chicago.
Good night.

Blessed.

Indeed.
It seems like our generation is constantly following the steps of the previous one - The 30's guys are not intrested in that anymore, they still haven't made money as they wanted or thought that they would.
But the 20's, aaaaah!!
These guys are just growing and growing, and ready to take what have been left in the way.

Highest of the Regards,

Mr. S.
