How the FUCK did people in the 90's manage to complete this without walkthroughs? I'm half way through this and I've lost track over how many times I've had to refer to a walkthrough. I think the story is great though which is such a shame that I have to almost spoil it by cheating.

Anyone recomend me some noob-friendly Adventure games? I obviously picked the wrong one to start out on but the story keeps me coming back.

LucasArts adventure games are usually pretty straightforward. Loom, Monkey Island 1 & 2, The Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle, The Dig...

This was your first adventure game ever? Well, as a rule of thumb I'll tell you to stay away from Sierra stuff. Gabriel Knight 1 might be one of the easiest Sierra games because absurd puzzles aside, you almost cant die, except on some specific more "action" oriented scenes, but those are few. You should start with Lucas Arts stuff (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, etc).

MI games have plenty of non-straightforward puzzles, don't they? (Like the metronome one in MI2)
You can't go wrong with LucasArts games anyway, OP.

The second does, a little bit. The first one is like Adventure Gaming 101.

Kinda, but LA games have usually a good learning curve, so they wont throw you impossible puzzles with huge areas to explore. The games have a logic progression.

Yeah, but Monkey Island 1 was developed as an entry level adventure game. Like you could not even die in it.

Other than drowning after staying under water for half an hour, that is.

Gabriel Knight 2 is way easier.

You should get used to not using a walkthrough though. Just be systematic about trying things out and experimenting. Starting the game over sometimes helps you get new ideas too.

Nah this wasn't my first adventure game ever. I played Grim Fandango a few years back but I only got half way through it. I also played Monkey island 3 & 4 as a kid though both of those I barely got far with.

Oh right, just like I'm expected to waste hours messing around with Gabe's grandads clock? Or how I'm supposed to know what to put on the voodoo queen's tomb?

>mfw the ending to the tomb message you're supposed to write is literally gibberish

Unless it's something significant that I missed? (I doubt)

I think that's why I never cared for the LucasArts games, despite all the love they get I always found them kinda boring and too easy

There's a clue in a journal you find. The last part of the message was mentioned in the university lecture. You'd get all this if you weren't impatient and didn't rely on the walkthrough.

doesn't the game pretty much out and out tell you at one point?

It's also in one of his grandads poems in a book in the shop.

I suck at these games though but alas I find them hella fun. I spent about 3 days (real time) on the first day. This is definitely too hard for me. Trust me when I say I'd never think to look back over the lecture on the tape recorder. Also, I don't look at the walkthrough unless I've exhausted eery idea I have to try and progress.

If you need clues you can always rely on UHS.

Yeah, Broken sword is basically GK lite and the first one is a solid game. Beneath a Steel Sky is maybe a touch more difficult but still easy.

I'm like the opposite of this thread. Lucasarts games make my brain hurt, while I'm able to coast through most Sierra games painlessly (dead ends/pixel hunts notwithstanding), especially GK1. It's weird how that works. I guess it's because graphic adventure game puzzles are so abstract that it takes a little imagination to complete them, and everyone's imagination is different.

Butchered the Intro, Pacing and Graphics.
They got some shit artist to draw over the original art and added a bunch of extremely easy puzzle scenes that pad out the game in a really bad way and destroy one of the more memorable opening scenes of a game I can remember. Most BS fans agree that the Director's Cuts are inferior.
It's for PC as well though so beware what you get. GOG gives you both versions though.
