played this and the remake of 1 recently and I really loved both. looking for similar survival horror / puzzle solving games. do I move onto RE3 or maybe try dino crisis? what else is there from this era that is comparably great

skip 3 and play code veronica next

>> No.6170843

Dino Crisis 1 is one of my favorites. A lot of people consider it worse than RE but I have a soft spot for the ridiculous plot and cool dinosaurs.

Imagine having taste so bad that you would skip the game that let's you run around Raccoon City.

I also enjoyed this I had it on dreamcast

3 is a lot more linear, but it's still pretty good. I like Dino Crisis a lot but it's significantly harder than any RE game, so be careful with your resources. Code Veronica is by far the worst RE imo, on account of the constant backtracking. The cutscenes are hilarious, though. Silent Hill is my favorite PS1 survival horror game, since it's the scariest by far. It's a lot easier than RE, though, since you'll never really have to worry about ammo conservation because there's so many bullets and the melee weapons are incredibly useful. I also think the puzzles are a bit better than those in RE.

Backtracking around the worst locale in the series isn't fun, though.

RE3 is the best of the original trilogy so go play it.

I can’t decide if I love or hate all the number combinations in Dino Crisis. It’s great that exploration and reading files has meaning, so I do enjoy it somehow. In any case, the actual puzzles are way better than in RE1 and 2 (never played 3).

The 3D environments are really cool, as is the fact that you can travel through air ducts. The whole game has a great futuristic aesthetic.

>>6170953
That's really my only issue with the game to be honest. A lot of the puzzles require paying close attention to the in game files and computers so I end up having to write a lot down to avoid backtracking from inevitably forgetting some number combination.

started Silent Hill today cause it came out on Jan. 31 back then and I'm digging it. really great atmosphere and music. puzzles are definitely better than RE1/2, which I found to be for the most part way too simple. the piano puzzle in SH was incredible and it was a genuine challenge to figure out. i kinda hate how slippery Harry feels but I'm adjusting to it.

1. Play RE1. The original.
2. Finish BOTH campaigns of both 1 and 2.
3. Play RE3, twice the least.
4. Play Parasite Eve & Silent Hill.

This looks so bad. Usually people name-drop rare games because of their value rather than quality. But this isn't rare or real expensive. I must be missing something, the only thing it seems to share with Resident Evil is tank controls. To each their own I guess. I would recommend playing Resident Evil 3, no reason to stop if you liked 1 and 2. 4 was the one that completely destroyed the series. Also, Silent Hill 1-4, snes Clock Tower, Alone In The Dark series, Rule Of Rose.

REmake 2 is a solid remake. The modern combat makes shooting stuff in the head more satisfying, while also somehow feeling like more of a survival horror game than the original. You should play REmake 2, RE3, DC1 and CVX desu.
