Svideo has been widely available on consumer crts in the US for decades.
The common consumer is very unlikely to purchase an RGB-YPbPr transcoder; actually, most people turn to shitty converter boxes for composite to HDMI to play their old games.

If anything, rgb is an Objective compromise to HDMI and modern displayport (when properly scaled).

S-video component cables have the most noticable effect with the PS2 games, evne though they do help with some PS1 games like the Tomb Raider ones.


The shitty thing is most modern TVs don't have S-video component inputs. My last tv (1080p HDTV) had inputs for S-video, memory cards, HDMI, computer monitor cable, and the works. My current 4k SmartTV one only has HDMI even though it costed more.

Component / scart -> component is the only cable you'll need honestly. An era consumer TV set with component input will blur the output enough so as to not get muh sharp pixels but also not go crazy with composite blur. Things meant to be sharp will stay sharp and things meant to be blurred will stay blurred.
