Oh my god why am I playing Adventure of Link. This game makes Dark Souls look like Angry Birds. Those fucking orange knight guys. I'm so mad.

Pic taken and thread posted with shitty phone, computer is in the other room. Let's talk about this goddamn game.

To beat the orange knights with ease, jump, time your stab so your sword hits the top of their helmet, repeat until they die.

Also, make damn sure you save properly, holding Reset while turning off the power, or else...

It's the cheap way, but it always, always works. The same thing will work on red knights later on. Blue knights will be trickier, though, since they throw projectiles.

Dark souls isn't hard at all. Learn the boss patterns and side step.

neither is zelda 2. Once you master the orange knight its just about navigating the dungeons and mana managment. Seriously the only hard enemies are the orange knights and their variants

Crouch-jump and attack on your way down right at head level. If you do it right, your sword will slide down their entire sprite before Link pulls it back.

It's one of the more effective techniques against any enemy that uses a shield. Including Dark Link.

>> No.615812

I find revisiting pretty much any NES game difficult by default. I'm not sure how to explain it but it's like they require a different skillset and patience than anything 16-bit and up. Maybe it's because games often forget what rooms you cleared and instead have enemies instantly respawn, or because stuff like power ups and checkpoints are few and far between. However once you get into the groove of it then it gets much better and starts to feel refreshing compared to any modern game.

OP here, I'm finding that to be true once again. Finally fuckled my way down past the dark cave to the swamp area, and it's starting to be kinda fun. Still have no idea where to go, though...

I struggle to get into some older games just because of the difficulty level. My first console was the SNES, and even then I played mostly first party/entry level stuff (Mario games, Kirby, Zelda...) so this whole retro-difficulty thing is somewhat new to me.

To be fair, it is a pretty difficult game. I mean expecting people to fight things that kill you in a few hits while your camera goes reeling through a wall blocking your entire view like it was fucking 1995. It's not easy fighting opponents you can't see.

Death mountain isn't even difficult to get through without a map. You don't even need to remember shit really, it pretty much leads you out. The trick isn't figuring the fucking thing out, it's surviving it because the shit in there will fuck you up if you're not high enough level or skilled enough.

As long as you don't let up and keep leaping into the blue knights they won't have time to fire swords at you. The Eagle Knights on the other hand...

For the few there are, they are easily the toughest regular enemies in the game. Particularly the blue ones.

Still, probably my favorite Zelda in the series.

They start throwing swords at you before you can reach them most of the time. It's not an issue of letting of, it's an issue of timing.

Not OP, but I just beat this a few minutes ago for the first time.

Wow, these feels. First off, that game was damn hard! It has been a few years since a game managed to give me blisters. I kind of loved how it had this massive scope to it, where the entire area that the first game took place in is just this little side quest to get the hammer. I loved that you reset to the North Palace when you continued; it's annoying to walk back to where you need to be, but it keeps you grounded because the first thing you see each time is the sleeping princess.

The final battle with your shadow is immensely satisfying in a way that it's hard to describe, as well as being a tough fight. I even kind of liked how you got pulled out of the world map in certain areas such as bridges and the barricade that the lizard men have set up in the mountains, it gives it a certain cinematic feel. On the other hand, I'm almost glad I didn't play this as a kid, because I wouldn't have had the patience for it, and despite using sparing save states for most of the game I gave in and saved right before the final two boss fights because fuck those bird knights in the Grand Palace right to hell. Still, what a great feeling to have beaten this!

It's not as difficult as some try to make you believe, but the challenge in Demon's Souls along with Dark Souls was a breath of fresh air compared to the usual cakewalk we get today. Of course, it's always easier after repetition.

I've completed AoL thrice already. I've yet to beat Dark Souls, despite clocking in over 100 hours now. AoL's difficulty is vastly overstated, everything from Ninja Gaiden to your typical shmup tends to be harder.

Polite sage for making an off-topic remark.
