lack of background music, and there isn't even much ambient noise so most of the time you just hear a basketball dribbling with the occasional announcer or crowd cheer.

Imagine watching a basketball game where everybody just sits quietly the majority of the time, its so unnatural.

Even if the background music in the genesis port isn't anything phenomenal it does its job by filling in the silence. Makes the game feel a lot more active, and a lot less dead. The gameplay is pretty much the same in both versions but the lack of music in the snes version is a head-scratcher.
