You dont use a gold contact protective spray after cleaning to prevent future oxidation? Your a retard to

>> No.6139314

>>6139309
Gold does not oxidize. Whatever component of the alloy that accompanies the gold may oxidize and it would oxidize not matter what you did. Gold does not oxidize. It does not combine with oxygen except in extremely specific/laboratory situations.

Gold doesn’t oxidize. Other metals do. If the contacts are just gone you replace them. There’s no situation where what you said makes sense. If rust has removed the legs on a chip or contacts you just replace it. You don’t scrub it away and spray it like a retard. You are very unlikely to be able to completely remove rust.

Sprays or solutions just refer to plated electronics as gold, because thats what most people call them. its good for all gold in color electronics like edge connectors and av cables that are made of copper bronze or nickel.

Brass leaves a non-metallic film over metal that protects it from future oxidation, but also increases resistance. Never ever EVER use brasso to clean electrical contacts!

95% isopropyl alcohol. You can get this at any drug store.

I live in Ireland, because of its alcohol content I had a really hard time tracking it down either online or in real life. I eventually found it on ebay - I got a package in a box termed "animal wipes". I was about to return it to the ebay seller saying they had made a mistake but I opened it up and there it was.

I'm also a potato eater and just went down to my local pharmacy and asked for isopropyl, no questions asked, just a couple of euro for the pleasure.

You're right that that shit is kept restricted, but seriously just try that next time if you didn't already, if you're asked you can be truthful and say that it's for cleaning electronics, you don't need a bucket of the stuff, you'll be grand.

You must have me confused with someone else. Regrettably,I haven't looked at anything 4chan for several months, and even then I tend to just lurk and soak in the information.

I told you I had a hard time getting it online or in real life. I tried supermarkets first thinking it would be in there, then I tried a pharmacy and they had no fucking clue what I was talking about and looked at me funny. I went to another pharmacy and the girl there also didn't know but said she would ask someone else, she came out saying that they didn't have it but they could order it for me. I thought sod it and left. Apparently drinking 250ml of it will kill the average person so I guess this is why it's somewhat restricted .

Fair enough, in my local pharmacy you're often face to face with the main pharmacist himself, that probably made things a bit easier for me.

That's not going to clean anything except dirt, which you could do just as easily with a cloth. Alcohol is not going to clean corrosion, which is the only reason anyone uses brasso for these things. If you're doing that, you're supposed to re-tin it with solder.

>> No.6147721

>>6145825
This is false, rubbing alcohol is the gold standard for (cheap) care of electronics and you can't clean it "just as easily with a cloth".

>That's not going to clean anything except dirt, which you could do just as easily with a cloth.
Lul.

You can strip most average contaminants with isopropyl alcohol, including any paint, glue, or ink that happens to be in the way, original or not.
It also does assist in breaking down corrosion.
