Why would you use brasso? I’ve never heard of this and this is the second time I’ve seen it. Don’t use abrasives for cleaning anything important ever. It’s for hard surfaces, pots and pans, counters. Why someone would use anything other than contact spray and a microfiber cloth or toothbrush is beyond me. Yes that is normal for using ducking brasso because it isn’t the right thing to use

The white stuff on the pins is oxidation and corrosion, none of this stuff is for rust. If you have a cartridge that has rust you cant get rid of it your fucked it will fuckup the internal pins on your system

A small amount of vinegar gets rid of even the nastiest rust with a little elbow grease. I’ve repaired many a hurricane damaged console/cart/computer and never had to use anything other than vinegar, alcohol and contact spray. For RF shields give them a baking soda bath, scrub with sandpaper and then zinc dip it.

You'll strip the gold plating off as well which makes it more vulnerable to future oxidation. as a last resort if the cart has real rust that you go ahead but then i would use dexoit gold to add a layer of protection, which yes is good for protecting things other then gold like sliver bronze copper and Nickel.

From me experience using Brasso, yes. It will strip off the gold plating. If you want to clean the residue that Brasso leaves use WD-40 and 90% alcohol.
