Did you have any second-party controllers back when these consoles were still current, and which ones do you use now? Second party means that unlike those really cheap replacement controllers that there was only a market for because they were cheap, second party controllers were allowed to use the logo of the console they were for since they were licensed. At least in Nintendo's case, they also seem to have had access to first party parts which were used for the buttons.
I myself really like ASCII's Playstation controllers, the dpad is just way better than Sony's. I both have a set of ASCII V3 and that 1-handed Grip controller in case I decide to start playing RPGs. I also have Super Famicom controllers by Hudson and Imagineer, but they're really just regular controllers with turbo functions.

I had this as a kid, looking at this photo now, I realize it was made by "STD", I think AVGN mentioned them (and noted the strange company name) in one of his episodes.
It wasn't bad as far as I remember, although probably the d-pad wasn't better than on an actual SNES controller.
The main gimmick it had was having a small LCD screen where you could set a combination of buttons and then map it to one of the external 3 buttons around the ABXY face ones, so you could have automatic buttons for the hadouken motion or whatever.

Stuff that InterAct made can't possibly be considered second-party. They distributed stuff like the Action Replay in the US under the name GameShark, so I doubt any of the manufacturers would license their controllers.

ASCII's grip controller is good for playing Quake 2 with the mouse, as it's more comfortable than holding a normal gamepad in one hand.
Their arcade sticks are great too.

Why? It's exactly the same as a regular controller except for the top part where you normally don't touch anyway and the switches which you said you didn't use.

Yeah, I have a few of them for the PS1. I usually try to beat games that weren't designed for them, just beat the first Crash game with the one in OP's pic recently. Also the mouse, arcade sticks and pic related. I'm a DDR fan so it was a no brainer for me, makes for some amusing challenges.

I had many. I don't use any today. Mostly because most are shit. Your ASCII controller being an excellent example of the kind of low build quality a lot of them have. And also because they have more value as a novelty and breaking them by using them when superior modern alternatives are available is just retarded.

What modern alternatives are there that aren't just inferior copies of the first party controllers without turbo buttons or anything like that?

Hori is still considered to be good and both Nintendo and Sony are licensing that manufacturer, it should be great if you're looking for a USB controller with the Saturn layout. The asymmetric shape seems a bit weird, but what do I know.

>>6126462
I'm talking about the poor quality of the things you say "seem to be the same quality as the first party ones". Not sure why it seems that way to you but I'm guessing it has a lot to do with not a lot of experience using them and having never bothered to look under the hood. Do a bit of those and then we'll talk. ASCII and Hori stuff is literally just inferior copies of the first party controllers with turbo buttons.

Why do you faggots always do this shit? Regardless, you sold at the right time. These sort of things are becoming increasingly worthless as making them has literally become childs play.
