Goldeneye sucks dick. Maybe you'd think it was good if you never played a PC FPS in your life.

Having played Goldeneye on PC with mouse-support, a lot of the challenge did come from the N64 controller itself....that still didn't stop it from causing me to die/lose the mission multiple, multiple times.

PC FPS sucked dick at the time in graphics and playability compared to N64. Not just Goldeneye but Turok was away ahead of games like Doom and Quake. We had to wait at least 4 years to see PC games that surpass N64.

>We had to wait at least 4 years
Nice try. Quake was already on PC when the N64 released with Star Wars Shadows of the Empire. Then in 97, the N64 got Turok and Goldeneye. Then in 98, the N64 got a watered down and blurry port of Quake and PC's got Unreal, Half-Life, and Starsiege:Tribes.

And trying to claim a controller is better for FPS games than keyboard and mouse? How high are you?

Wasn't talking about ports. N64 got enough exclusive games that were better than PC's and none of the game you mentioned that came 1 year later were better and I will explain why.
>Unreal
was just another Quake game with the same dark boring setting.
>Half-life
you had to kill bugs in a lab with a crowbar while in Turok you could blow dinosaurs in a jungle with an arrow
>Starsiege:Tribes
An empty boring Star Wars themed game compared to Shadows of the Empire from 1997 and their port that came for PC later was not better because it had shitty graphics compared to N64

Further proof that Treasure was truly an underrared beast of a developer in the 90s.

>> No.6123359

Regardless, for not-retro ports to retro systems, I think you can talk about the retro port in /vr/. This is different from discussing ports and remakes of a RETRO game (game released on system/OS/board from before 2000). Another example: Cave Story for Dreamcast and Genesis is retro, but Cave Story for PC is not. So, the PC port of Halo 1 is /vr/, but the original Xbox game is not /vr/.

Just because you're a zoomer who first heard about Treasure when Ikaruga was already hyped by EDGE in the 2000s, doesn't mean Treasure wasn't underrated in the 90s.

Bangai-O was fucking shit. Sure, the first 10 levels or so are fun, but the ending levels are tedious bullshit. Treasure was good. Gunstar Heroes was good, Guarding Heroes was really good, Silhouette Mirage was great. And Bangai-O sucked.

So is the whole zoomer thing just you projecting or what? Because I doubt you were alive when these games were first released. Your claims don't fit with reality.

This is the same fox and grapes as halo and there was never any substance to it. The best PC fps before halo was duke nukem 3D, which I think is still a very fun game, but it's the pinnacle of the horizontal aiming doom clones and not much more. GE was miles ahead of it

doom and quake are iconic with the .. movement i guess in quake.. not sure what in doom, the aesthetic maybe. But is the shooting actually fun? i mean ducking back and forth maybe. But does a 2d demon with a 3 frame death animation really satisfy compared to shooting a dude in the ass and having him jump and writhe?
Like if your definition of 'fps' is centred on reflexive fast responses and zooming around, ok that's your thing. but that's not what goldenye is trying to be. it does something else, and it's something wonderful

There's one thing you could do in goldeneye that was miles ahead of PC at the time. You could shoot the helmet of a target and make it fall off. I did it when I sneaked through the vents I saw a guard taking a dump in the restroom. I shot the helmet off him but he didn't noticed though. My friend saw that and he almost shit his pants.
