Who cares? The systems are good, cheap, and have cheap games. Go buy one and play it and stop worrying about the name.

PS1 only if you're referring to the smaller white model.

>> No.6123273

That's PSOne
The regular original playstation is abbreviated "PS" officially.
"PSX" was sometimes used unofficially by game magazines and such back then, because of the codename of the system was PSX (or P.S.X or PS-X, etc)

Someone needs to post that image proving it was always called the PSX

>> No.6123283

It was called The Playstation.

>> No.6123289

i call it ps1 because it just makes sense. before later ps's came out i called it playstation. but when the ps2 came out named playstation 2 it just makes sense to call the first one ps1. simple as. psx sounds retarded btw

Both but PSX probably shouldn’t be used anymore due to Sony releasing a hybrid DVR/PS2 called PSX. For whatever reason they also call the PlayStation Experience, PSX.

>> No.6123301

>>6123278
Yeah, sometimes. As I said, in Japan it was almost always called PS on publications and such. "PS" is also the tag on Yahoo Auctions Japan to search for PS1 games today.
PSX is not entirely unofficial, because it was a codename, but the final name is PlayStation (same as how N64 used to be NU64, and some magazines kept calling it that, or Ultra 64, for years to come).
Myself, I call it PS0.

Doesn’t matter, both ways people know what you are referring to.

It’s a regional thing. In the town I grew up in and the schools I went to it was called: “the PlayStation”. But then when PS2 came out people called it: “PS1”.

If faggots want to say PSX then they better say Ultra 64 too. or the Ultra 64's successors Dolphin and Revolution.

Ive always said ps1, but does anyone know how the term psx came about? Im curious. PS2 wasnt a known thing until the late 90s so im surprised to see it being called PSX in a tekken 2 feature, i would have thought they would have just used PS. Maybe they felt they needed a 3 letter abbreviation to fit with stuff like NES, 3DO, CDI, N64, GEN, SAT etc? Just a thought, probably wrong.

Also, i know its not retro, ive always felt the same way about gamecube being abbreviated as GCN? Again, maybe having three letters looked more appealing for magazine editors, but why not NGC?

It's a weird kind of deal, same how Americans refer to the date as MM/DD/YYYY
The system was referred to in insider stuff as GameCube - Nintendo. On military forms it was labeled YEAR in the top corner for sorting, then lower down by month and day.

IIRC Nintendo told publications that GCN was their preferred abrieviation for some reason.

The development codename for the console was Playstation-X.

Also, before the PS2 came out, most gaming mags called it PSX2.
