Perditon's Gate I think has some decent ideas, but over half of the maps feel like completely generic filler, which they kind of are, because Wraith wanted it out the door and had their own mappers fill in the map slots in a most cookie cutter manner.
You'll get lots of maps, mostly towards the middle and end, which are very short and similar tan brick affairs, with not a lot of monsters, and not a lot of challenge.
The actually pretty cool ideas in Perdition's Gate don't really get to bloom, and you feel robbed because you thought it was gonna go for one thing but then doesn't, like the whole hell in space thing, which you get to see exactly once on map 15 and then never again.

I think you could have a better Perdition's Gate by deleting about half the maps, then replacing them with something more inspired.

If you really want to add I M M E R S I O N to the helmet, don't focus on having it obstruct the player's view unnecessarily, but rather how it interacts with things that happen. Stuff like cracks and blood splatter relative to damage and gibs are a lot better than just rubbing a christmas ham over the visor.

The offset of the crosshair is mostly done to compensate for the angle at which a weapon fires. Since most are at the bottom of the screen, they generally have a minor pitch adjustment that causes it to vary its accuracy over distance. The only way I really know of to fix this is to have projectiles come straight from the center of the screen, but it will look jank af with anything other than a hitscan (and even then, point blank will have the puffs look weird)

Now that we're in the mood of some Turok which one do you consider the best?
I feel Turok 2 takes that spot,the enemy variety and weaponry are top notch,same for the action.
The soundtrack is also criminally underrated.
The remaster improved a lot of things and generally I don't feel the level design is as bad as many make it out to be.
While Turok 1 is almost as good,the levels just look boring most of the time.

It's somewhat incredible how much of a downgrade Turok 3 was compared to the previous titles.
The cutscenes are impressive but that's the only improvement,the weaponry is poor and the enviroments look so bland.
It had some neat ideas but poorly executed.
Also add that the final boss is a joke compared to the Primagen.
The Cerebral Bore was butchered too.

It's understandable,the level design in 1 was much more straightforward but even key hunting in there was a chore.
The mantids level for me was the worst while Lair of the Blind Ones is much more tolerable thanks to the remaster.

No Rest for the Living is such a beauty. I don't exactly know what makes it so much better than everything else, probably the progressive, adventure feel, or the sense of place, but you know, I just love playing this episode.

Yeah, I figured that was some kind of Arch-vile Hell-baron cross that looked like something out of an Elder Scrolls game, desu it felt like all the production quality as far as monsters and shit was put into that scene because the monsters and special effects in the earlier scenes on the ship felt like a totally different team working on them or costumed up. The ship it'self looked great but the problem with it until the end similarly to the first movie was the movie was colorful and not red. Make the tint on the film red and black and it would have felt like a Doom movie instead of some channel 23 scifi movie.

I hate that gzdoom has trilinear filtering, dark sector lighting, decals on, translucent projectiles, rocket particle trails, among other things that ruin the aesthetic of Doom as the defaults. I'd assume that it's because a large amount of modders use it, and newer players get drawn in with these mods and grow used to the port as a whole. To be fair to GZDoom, there are quite a lot of varied mods that showcase what the engine can do. What other ports are there in terms of that? EE? 3DGE? I'm not sure. They certainly aren't popular enough to get constantly updated. And ports like Doomsday and Risen3D have poor reputations because of the whole 3D model gimmick.

Legion of bones is a good monster set. Though right now a lot of the weapons do higher than vanilla damage so it's really easy to chew through those monsters. Combined_Harms is another obvious choice. When Rampancy finally gets released that'll make for a great pairing too.

My preference for map design are ones that generally avoid switch/key hunts and flow well. Don't like maps where I don't know where to go and so they keep putting break between gameplay. I like it when 99% of the focus is on gameplay, and interesting combat scenarios are created.

Skillsaw manages to somehow create incredibly elaborate maps that are also intricately crafted yet you always know where to go and they flow amazingly well. Then the gameplay is orgasmic, too. What are the best Doom WADs that can run on Crispy Doom? This is my favorite source port because of the vertical recoil/screen shake when you fire (somehow no other sourceport has this), and it looks the most like how I remember Doom looking. Sadly it's only in 4:3 aspect ratio though

Pic related are the ones that I've played so far, and Scythe/Scythe2 are currently my favorite by a long shot, followed by doom.wad (it's super fun trying to complete an episode on nightmare without dying, only did episode 3 so far, e2m6 is a bitch since I can't voidglide, and e1m3/m5/m7 always get me)
