>LaSalle Ishii's Childs Quest
>Stardom Warriors is the Woolsey Fan Company’s second localization. It attempts to recreate what an official release would have looked like back in the day of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
>Nintendo of America would have likely run into copyright issues with the celebrities featured within the game, so they were omitted. Several changes were made to accommodate this. The celebrity inserts would have held no meaning for a majority of the American audience anyway.
>The WFC also mostly adhered to NoA’s content policies, so localization changes were made. This ensures that, had Stardom Warriors actually been released officially, it would’ve gotten an “E for Everyone” rating.

This sounds as bad as that re-translation of Phantasy Star IV that made it as if Working Designs localized it.

RHDN is used as a secondary file mirror by lots of foreign teams (except CJK translation patches, they don't care) because their websites go down a lot. Even RHDN is born from the ashes of one such website. Same reason why many English translators don't just self-host really.

"Download file" and "LunarIPS" are machine translation friendly for browser users.

You can't fault gemini after all what happened.

With 6 months passing without updates, his translator launched a kotaku controversy on his ass, and releases all her files. Basically: I need another romhacker. Turns out he WAS actively working on it before and during this, and recorded livestreams.
Other "translations" that replace lines with numbers from the script popped up.

Enough people pestered him in private so he got fed up and open sourced it. Someone announces he's continuing the project, but isn't very skilled, and basically asks Gemini to help him compile it in a topic that's a barrage of him disrapaging him for dooming the project. Against all odds, he gives the needed information to that person.

He immediately compiles the unplayable mess and releases that as something like "Mizzurna Falls English Patch v1.0" Gemini discovers the joys of open source development and has a change of heart, so he reports the patch twice, and announces a successor who offered a convincing pitch to solve the specific programming bugs the game still had, and gave him those sources plus further work still done after that drama. He was approached by another one (known) and gave him those too.

Enter ResetEra (fan translation hate boner) and cj iwakura (involved with vaporware Eternal Punishment PSP, Gemini did Innocent Sin PS1, i smell bad blood behind the scenes somehow) who loves to enter other projects and "lead" them on social media. He reuploads the patch out of spite, and announces plans to continue it, and disrapages Gemini and the first unknown successor as incompetent, and that "v1.0" romhacker found a way to fix all bugs.

The Spanish patch, and the initial English patches weren't at fault technically - one could argue they used Gemini's extracted text, but the spanish dev work was 100% original.

Aeon Genesis dropped SMT:if and complained to Kotaku for far less.
Compare this to 3 individuals attacking him in public THEN requesting help.

These two i'll lay on him because the retard translator clearly didn't get much response from him on it's status and post-controversy he was being really unclear if he was still going to finish it or not giving mixed signals like it was going out of style.

The source is the Spanish translator. He has since sorted it out with the moderators and the patch is up and approved. He only used eve's script ... extracted by gemini, but if it's a problem the spanish translator can just point out he did extract the text on his own. After all the translation wouldn't be finished otherwise.

Here are the differences laid out:
>Japanese: use BIOS font
>Gemini English: use custom proportional font, created by Gemini
>starplayer/cj_iwakura English competitor #1: use Gemini's font, as they are based on his open sources
>English competitor #2 by french/russian/spanish translators: use BIOS font and unmodified JP game, and eve's translation. Before source release. Never finished, and interest dropped like a rock after source release.
>Spanish: based on English competitor #2. Released.

What do you know, the spanish translator didn't stop work on that "inferior" version, and as a result he got shit done. Ain't that swell?

cj_iwakua would better take a few notes from this and work from the original japanese version, implement his own fonts and everything, and sidestep the use of a copyrighted source code (no license at release) from a guy they're actively antagonizing while wanting to use his work, then surprised he gets back at them. Maybe then will the project ever release. All the drama is really harming the project.

PS: Who the hell goes to Kotaku to save a fan project? Their entire coverage of fan projects is all sinking them with DCMAs then milking the drama, and they admit they do it on purpose. They "reach out to companies for comment" and include real names even for unconsenting subjects for fucks sake. They nudged Square-Enix repeatedly about Final Fantasy Type-0 until they SUED the main programmer, and then to justify his "comeuppance" they dig up team drama to assassinate his character further. All of that because he snubbed their interview.

That's a fucking baffling trend that's popped up lately. Those cunts have done 2 translations in the style of 1980s Nintendo of America localizations where they butcher the script, change everything and censor the fuck out of it.
What fucking clown world are these people living in?
With that and the new trend of "re-localizations" where the teams don't know any japanese and they just make shit up (see recent ff6 and phantasy star iv patches), the rom hacking community needs a bullet in the head.

Fuck. I would actually pay someone hundreds of dollars to do even a barebones machine translation of the text to english just so I could play these awful games. Love hina had like 3, and Negima had over 5.
