That first Alex Kidd game was beast as fuck, I enjoyed it way more than Super Mario Bros. at the time.

yes it would, only problem is that SEGA MADE A TOY FUCKING TRUCK COMPANY TO MARKET THE GAME CONSOLE IN AMERICA

Real men play Alex Kidd and rank it alongside Super Mario Bros., just to be fair.

Alex Kidd was never the mascot of Sega. People only thought that because his games were popular.

But he was.

No other Sega characters were as proeminent, until some annoying blue hedgehog came over.

Transformations were golden to me as a kid. I was a Kirby addict, and anything that follows that formula. You could even make the arguement that Pokémon does, and that's why it became popular. Kids love options.

/vr/ - Revisionist history from clueless teens.

"In the mid-to-late 1980s, Alex Kidd overtook the character of "Opa-Opa" from the game Fantasy Zone as the official mascot for the Sega Corporation."

Opa-Opa featured in the Zillion anime, which gives more credence to its moniker as the official SEGA mascot.

>>610853
Yes, Miracle World is much better. The shop's aren't a matter of life or death, the level design's better overall, and the main theme's catchy as hell (I still prefer the soundtrack for Enchanted Castle, though).

I've been wondering since childhood-
Is Alex Kidd a monkey or a man?

>> No.613085

its one thing for sega to shift their mascot to something more favorable, but its a completely different thing to let this series completely fall off the face of the earth.

its almost pathetic. to only give the character a few cameos since 1990 when it was initially a flagship title. its really no wonder sega could never compete with nintendo with a business model like this.

i've never been much of a sega fan and i've honestly never heard of this series till i saw this thread but alex kidd has completely spurred my interests. rip alex.

I found out recently that there was a Fantasy Zone game on NES. A Sega game on a Nintendo console.

He's pretty much Sega's Kid Icarus. Maybe one day there will be a Alex Kidd: Uprising.

>> No.615879

>>613085
He was never officially a mascot as far as I know, people started perceiving it as such because he was essentially made to compete with Mario and the fact that it came bundled with the Master System. Opa Opa was also an unofficial mascot because the Fantasy Zone games were one of the first games having success in the arcade scene.
But honestly, they never really were.

In Japan and North America that would be true. Though I am an American, I never knew the Master System existed before the internet.
