Yeah, all of my levels were a mess for sure

YOU WERE ZUCCED DOWN
IT WAS YOUR ZDOOM

The game was mostly done, the coder went off to do music and we never heard from them again.

music was kind of unnecessary for the project too, most of those shitty games didn't have music

You can play the current version by downloading the .tap file and using it with a speccy emulator
>>6098627
It's pretty close, we just need to make sure all the gems are obtainable, and I could use some general playtesting feedback to tweak it.
>>6098737
The collab map is terrible from a gameplay standpoint, but beautiful when you consider the context of it being crowdsourced.
>>6099385
It's still likely I'll add music to the title screen, but I don't think we need it to call the game done. I know Tim Follin released a music driver for the system which I could use, but I don't think I will because it would be too good.
I've still taken a while to finish the final room, but I'd get it done within a week if it's the last thing to do before the project is finished.

Also I really like the design of the UI here, I'll probably use it, especially since there's been no other designs for the status bar.

i feel like if thats the case then the project is being taken too seriously. wasn't it supposed to be a parody of european shovelware? as in, it probably should have been 'finished' in a crappy state. not saying you couldn't make a sequel that was better. this should just be called zniggy 2

>wasn't it supposed to be a parody of european shovelware? as in, it probably should have been 'finished' in a crappy state.

it would be cool if the parody game was also somewhat playable too. Zniggy already got a lot of effort involved from many anons - everyone can just make a shitty unplayable game on purpose, you just can't get any shittier than Sqij, so we could make a fun game as well.

no idea about the spectrum, but sound engines for old computers/consoles in general were nearly as time consuming to develop as the game itself, especially if you also had to develop a tracker to go with it for arranging music (which also requires some music knowledge in order to be friendly to the musicians using it)

a lot of studios would go as far to just license 3rd party sound engines and tooling

>> No.6101875

>>6101814
On the C64 a lot of musicians would directly write their music as an assembly program which would be embedded into the game, rather than creating music as data for a general purpose sound engine. Obviously that technique doesn't work well with sharing resources with the game itself, so such games would usually only have music at the intro screen which would be designed to play nice with the music program.

The map is still being used, >>6098358 seems to be a different Zniggy project. The only limitation on the map itself was it had to be beatable, and had to not introduce too many tiles. Every contributor had a different interpretation, so there's rooms that intentionally frustrating, rooms that a parodies and rooms that are just good.
There's a few rooms where if you walk to the next room, you get stuck in a wall that then pushes you out back into the previous room. I'm not sure whether I should fix this, any thoughts? And since we've been hung up on playtesting for months, I can just do it myself as much as I don't want to. At this point, I'd feel bad if the project never finished with all the effort people have put in.

Total bullshit. Confirmed retarded zoomer. Probably the same fucktard who was shitting up the original zniggy threads with his ignorance claiming everything was impossible.
