Arcade sticks
I spent days modding and tinkering with a sanwa jlf. I tried different actuators, springs, aftermarket gates. Never really got comfortable with it. Eventually I gave up and bought a Seimitsu LS-40. I really like the ls-40. I wish the throw was a tiny bit longer. But going back to the jlf it feels loose and wobbly in comparison.
What do you use for your arcade sticks? Have you experimented with korean sticks that use the rubber surrounds?
Have you done any mods to an arcade stick that you think actually improved the feel or performance of the stick?

So I have a Sega Naomi, I'm debating building a fight stick box that is selectable jamma, USB, and jvs. Trying to do too much in too little space? Is certainly technically feasible. Just have the 2 io boards for jvs and USB and a jamma connector. Just need a way to switch all the buttons from one cable to another easily.

Are you talking about one of these? There should be plenty of room to stuff some more boards in there. Not sure what to recommend for switching.

>> No.6084840

>>6084789
Should be easy enough to get everything in there, but I'm not sure what a good way to switch would be. I guess you could wire up some harnesses and physically plug in to whichever you wanted to use. Kind of a hassle but it wouldn't really be that bad.

Has anyone tried the LS 56 or LS 60? I have found a few tables comparing spring weights and stuff but It's hard to visualize how they will actually feel compared to the ls-32 and the ls-40. I think I might like the 56 more than the 40. I guess I should just buy one. It's nice that they aren't very expensive.

Also has anyone tried the rg version sanwa buttons like the Sanwa OBSF-30rg? The ones with the massive switches? I'm wondering if the feel different from their standard buttons.

Have you tried the Korean style joysticks? They have a rubber surround around the shaft that makes them really snappy and high resistance. They are usually used for 3d fighters but you might like them if you use such strong springs.

I have an ls-32 and and ls-56. 56 feels somewhat stiffer and has a shorter throw. I stuck an oversized actuator into it and there's near no dead zone, can hardly move the stick without pressing a microswitch. Which is exactly how I like it

I mostly play shmups and other arcade games though, I'm not sure how it'd fare for fighters

Thanks that's just what I was wondering about. Are the shaft lengths the same or is the 56 taller?

Does anyone know the cheapest and most effective way to get rid of metal tabs on arcade stick metal panel?
I got this arcade stick that I want to mod, but the buttons are held in with metal tabs.

I heard I could just get a dremel and grind them off, but I'm not sure how to go about that.
I don't know what kind of tip or what kind of dremel to get.

Also, what kind of material could I stuff in the enclosure to silence the joystick?
I want to play fightcade late at night without getting complaints from neighbors.

You know that you pop the buttons out of the front right? There should be same tabs on the back that you squeeze in and then you just push them through.

I have a JLF as well but never used any Seimitsu product. With the Sanwa I tried different mods however:

I used a 1mm oversize actuator for a while which I definitely enjoyed as it speeds up your play for sure. After a while though I grew tired of it because it also shifts the size of the actuation zones in favor of diagonals. In comparison to the default actuator it becomes easier to do diagonal inputs but horizontals and verticals are harder to hit. That started to bother me with time and so I took it back out.

I also tried a 2lb tension spring but I don't have many good things to say about it. Don't get me wrong. It works - when you let go of the stick from full throw it doesn't hit the opposite switch or anything. But it definitely felt like it was slowing me down. Tried it with both actuators too. Just wouldn't do it for me. It feels snappier, you might subconsciously associate that feeling with a sturdier build quality and therefore prefer it. But my guess is that, in reality, it's slowing you down.

It's all a matter of taste really and they're not bad mods to do but they're probably more suitable for shmups rather than fighters.

I have an octagonal restrictor gate as well but never used it thus far. I know I wouldn't like it. I think of a Shoryuken as an angular C motion more than anything.

Oh uh, tl;dr
Mods are cool. I'm back to the stock JLF though. No mods inside my stick.

>> No.6085465

Bought Suzo 500 for like $10. Changed Switches, but its a bitch to mod. I really need custom shaft to install it properly but I don't have access for CNC machine. For shmups only of course. To be honest you can "master" any stick but it takes time

>>6087494
Throw and microswitch activation is about the same - 7,5mm and 4mm. Shaft is marginally longer in 56, but honestly it's hard to feel the difference. LS-56 has only sqare restrictor and you can't use that fucking seimitsu's yellow-piece-of-shit-gate with it.

It's not that I hate Sanwa nor do I think they're shit, because they're definitely not shit, but I just vastly prefer Seimitsu. I first got a JLF and used the hell out of it, then when I decided to change out my parts, I deviated from the norm and got an LS-32 instead with different switches and I prefer it a lot more. The increased tension makes it more comfortable in my opinion. Same with the buttons. When I play fighting games, I thought that my arcade stuck was fucking up because the game was doing commands that I thought I didn't input, but as it turns out, Sanwa buttons are really sensitive, and I mean extremely sensitive; just a slight graze of your finger is enough to register an input. Seimitsu's buttons are nowhere near as sensitive, so I can rest my fingers on them without me jerking my fingers about and causing an unnecessary input, yet they're still tactile enough to be pressed slightly enough to register an input.

Seimitsu just makes all different kinds of products for all kinds of applications to suit various different needs. It's not that Sanwa is shit or Seimitsu is better; it's all about a matter of preference and Seimitsu fills that role for me.
