Fuck man, no wonder the thing was a dud. Would you want such a large, unwieldy handheld? (pic approximately actual size)

>> No.607961

>>607945
It took 6 AA batteries but still had like a 3 hour battery life on top of its size.

Had one as a kid and it rarely lasted through a long car trip.

Also, the Sonic games for it were not too great, to me.

>> No.607967

The hardware is pretty shit, especially today, as the LCD's have degraded. There are some surprisingly fun games on the thing though. If you can mod it up to modern standards with a rechargeable battery and a new LCD screen, it's a nice little handheld.

first you need to build an rgb multiplexer PCB to get the console video signal and make it out as regular rgb. some guy sell them for 50AUD/each.

you need to find the good tft screen (a 3.5" i think). around 35 to 50 $.

and after all this you will find out that all this shit was useless cause with native game gear games there is no upscale of the picture and it appear in a tiny box on the center of your already small lcd. only master system ports like ecco or castle of illusion work fine

The Game Gear had a few good games. Tail's Adventure was probably my favorite of the bunch. The coolest thing about the Game Gear was the Game Gear Tuner, which let you watch TV. There was also an adapter that let you play your Genesis games on the Game Gear before Nomad was a thing.

The battery issue was a real thing, but I didn't know a single person growing up that didn't have a rechargeable power pack for the thing (then again, I only knew a few kids who had it growing up). You could also plug the thing into your car through the cigarette lighter if you had the right cord.

Keep in mind, battery life was an issue because it was a backlit system, something the Gameboy wasn't, and that was a big issue with the Gameboy. Batteries also supposedly lasted less long back then.

The GG's video output is in an uncommon 15-bit digital RGB fomat. You'd need a whole conversion circuit to make it play nice with anything but the original LCD.

And the TV tuner only accepts analogue signals and they've turned them off in my area. (Though it does have video -input-, so I could play my Nomad through it if I were grade-A wacko.)

That is actually brought up on the Cxbx website.

>The first step to creating an Xbox Emulator was determining the hardware and software systems used by the Xbox. Since the Xbox is pretty much a PC dressed up like a console, the hardware component was easy enough. The software side was a bit more complicated. The Xbox uses a stripped down and partially modified Windows 2000 Kernel. The Xbox also only executes a single process at a time.

>In order to emulate an Xbox game, it is necessary to simulate the game's environment. For the Xbox, this means making the game believe that it is running on a very specific set of PC hardware, running a very specific operating system. The operating system is simulated by intercepting kernel function calls, and wrapping them around existing NTDLL functions within Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The specific hardware is simulated by intercepting code that is known to touch the hardware at the lowest level possible. For Direct3D, this means simulating the Direct3D API by wrapping it around the windows Direct3D API.
